One of the key components of the Philadelphia Union's turnaround figures to be a fixture with the club for the foreseeable future.
The Union secured the full rights to Carlos Valdes on Friday, ensuring that the 26-year-old Colombian centerback does not return to the club that held his rights, Independiente Santa Fe. Valdes was acquired on loan in the offseason and has been a revelation in the back for Philadelphia, which had one of the worst defensive units in the league during its inaugural season.
Between the additions of Valdes and veteran goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon, Philadelphia has conceded the second-fewest goals in MLS (19).
What do you think of this development? How important do you think Valdes has been to Philadelphia's success?
