The San Jose Earthquakes lost Ike Opara to a season-ending foot injury last year, and they received a brief scare on Thursday when Opara picked up a knock to that same left foot.
Opara injured his foot during Thursday's training session, and limped off slowly under his own power. Fears were eased when X-rays on the foot came back negative, but Opara is listed as questionable for San Jose's match against the Houston Dynamo on Saturday.
Opara has started in three of the Earthquakes' last four matches, and should start this weekend if deemed healthy enough.
Here are some more stories to help round out your Thursday:
Perovic sidelined for remainder of season
New England Revolution midfielder Marko Perovic has undergone surgery on his left knee and will miss the remainder of the season. Perovic, who initially suffered the injury on April 23, only played in four games this season. The timetable for Perovic's return is 6-9 months.
Palacios move to Napoli stalls
Tottenham and Honduras midfielder Wilson Palacios has seen a potential move to Napoli stall because of the potential transfer fee. Napoli remains interested in Palacios, but the price that Tottenham is demanding is currently too high for the Italian club. The reported price that Tottenham wants for Palacios is $14.4 million.
Man City to give up on Sanchez
Manchester City is keen on signing Udinese striker Alexis Sanchez, but the Chilean does not want to move away from Italy, according to Udinese coach Atilio Lombardo. Sanchez looks all but likely to make a move away from Udinese this summer, but he'd prefer to sign with Inter Milan or Juventus, both of which have expressed interest in him.
