Gabriel Ferrari's test drive with the Chicago Fire was successful.
The Fire signed Ferrari, a former United States U-20 striker, on Thursday after he was on trial with the team throughout the preseason.
Ferrari, 22, was a product of the New York Red Bulls youth system before signing with Sampdoria in Italy's Serie A three years ago. He never featured for the top-flight club and was loaned throughout Italy's lower tiers while battling injuries. He wound up with FC Wohlen in Switzerland last year before attempting a return to MLS.
In Ferrari, the Fire is getting a 6-foot-2 striker with a top-notch pedigree who is looking to recapture the form that made him one of country's top prospects when he was a part of the 2007 U.S. U-20 World Cup team. He's the latest addition to the Fire's forward pool, which includes recent acquisitions Orr Barouch and Dominic Oduro.
What do you think of the signing? Do you see Ferrari breaking out in MLS this season?
