Kristine Lilly, one of the most accomplished players in world soccer history, has retired.
The world record holder for international appearances with an amazing 352, Lilly has decided to step away from both the U.S. women's national team and her professional career with the WPS Boston Breakers after spending parts of four decades playing at the highest level. Lilly is 39.
Lilly finished her career with 130 goals and 105 assists for the United States, both numbers second only to Mia Hamm on the all-time U.S. list.
The last of the women's U.S. national team's 'Fab Five' (along with Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy, Joy Fawcett and Brandi Chastain), Lilly finishes her career as the only soccer player, male or female, to make more than 200 appearances for their national team. She also finishes as the only woman to play in five World Cups.
What are your lasting memories of Lilly illustrious career? Think anybody will ever come close to breaking her caps record? Was she your favorite women's player ever?
