Major League Soccer has plenty of great rivalries, from Chivas USA-Los Angeles Galaxy, to FC Dallas-Houston, to Chicago-D.C. United, but a new one is on the horizon and could become the league's marquee match-up before long.
When the Philadelphia Union begins play in 2010, it will set up shop within two hours of D.C. United and the New York Red Bulls, and while the Philly-New York rivalry could be a good one, the fact that FEMA and the Red Cross will need to be called in to rebuild the Red Bulls, D.C.-Philly is looking like the safer bet to be a top rivalry in year one.
MLS is doing its part to set that up, making D.C. United's trip to Philadelphia the first home game for the Union. The match, set to be played at Lincoln Financial Field on April 10, should draw a significant crowd both from the lively Philadelphia supporters and the large D.C. United fan contingent.
So here's our question to you: Do you see D.C.-Philly becoming the league's premier rivalry right away, or do you think one of the league's other established rivalries will remain at the top? Cast your vote after the jump:
Excited at the prospect of Philadelphia establishing great rivalries with D.C. United and New York? Plan on attending the first match in Philadelphia? Still see Seattle-Portland being the league's best rivalry come 2011?
