If you were hoping to see a USA-Iran friendly later this year, you won't be getting your wish.
As might be expected, the current political instability in Iran has made scheduling a USA-Iran friendly a difficult proposition, but Iran's top soccer official has gone public stating that the teams will play each other after the 2010 World Cup.
Ali Kaffashian definitely sounds convinced that the match has been agreed to and will take place, but my sources tell me no agreement has been reached, but the interest in certainly there in having a game next year.
What do you think of this development? Disappointed a USA-Iran match won't happen this year, or did you already accept that it wasn't a possibility given the political situation in Iran? Who would you like to see the USA face this fall after the qualifiers are over (and after the U.S. national team has presumably qualified for the 2010 World Cup)?
