The Chicago Fire looked to be in danger of sliding into a serious slump on Sunday night, but wound up delivering the kind of victory that can transform a season.
Down 2-0 and facing the prospect of a third loss in four matches, Chicago could have given up and fallen three points further behind East leaders Columbus. The Fire could have let its rash of defensive injuries and Bakary Soumare's likely departure serve as excuses for another home defeat, but instead of losing, Chicago rallied, scoring three second-half goals, including a Dasan Robinson game-winner in stoppage time to post a 3-2 victory against the Colorado Rapids.
The win pulls Chicago to within a point of the Crew for the lead in the Eastern Conference and help gives the Fire an eight-point cushion on the other teams in the East. That could come in handy as the Fire has seven matches remaining in the regular season, with all but one coming against teams with winning records.
What did you think of the Fire's stirring comeback? See Chicago putting it together and challenging title favorites Columbus and Houston? Still think there are major issues that the Fire need to address?
