U.S. national team striker Charlie Davies is just one of several Americans who will see their European league seasons start this weekend.
Davies, who joined French club Sochaux from Hammarby this summer, will make his Ligue 1 debut against Auxerre, while U.S. national team captain Carlos Bocanegra and Rennes open against Boulogne, both on Saturday.
U.S. national team striker Kenny Cooper should also make his debut, with new club 1860 Munich set to play on Sunday. U.S. midfielder Michael Bradley will open his Bundesliga campaign as Borussia Moenchengladbach takes on VFL Bochum on Sunday.
