Goals for a pair of national team starters, coupled with a key victory for the team of another starter, made the past weekend a memorable one for Americans Abroad.
With the Coupe de France up for grabs, Carlos Bocanegra gave Rennes a lead this weekend when he got on the end of a free kick from the right side in the 70th minute. Bocanegra's goal would not stand as the game winner though as Rennes would surrender two goals. Bocanegra played 90 minutes in the 2-1 defeat to Guingamp.
Oguchi Onyewu also scored this weekend, netting a similar goal to cap the scoring in Standard Liege's 2-0 win over Club Brugge. Onyewu's powerful header in the 72nd minute was also curled in from a free kick on the right flank before he hit it over the goal line which resulted in chants of "Onyewu" from the Standard supporters.
The American with the most to cheer about after this weekend is midfielder MIchael Bradley. Bradley and Borussia Moenchengladbach raised themselves out of the relegation zone with three games remaining after they found a goal in the 90th minute to defeat Schalke 04, 1-0.
