Hello and Welcome to the Soccer by Ives Fantasy Corner – now truncated for easy reading! Every week I dig through statistics, news, and rumors to provide the reader with the kind of fantasy advice that only a tax auditor can provide. I am writing this well before the official injury reports come out, so don't be grumpy if I tell you to pick a hurt player. For information on MLS Fantasy Football go to http://fantasy.mlsnet.com/.
Just a couple quick notes, before the recommendations for the week.
For those who didn’t watch the LA Chivas Super-classico / Derby Match on ESPN, here is a brief description. In the super-classico I hope no one took either Bruce Arena or Preki – it was a Derby Match! In a Super-classico the passions run higher and because it’s a derby match the cards often flow. In this case of the super-classico derby match both coaches earned negative points in the derby match, because of all the cards the over excited players earned while playing in the exciting super-classico derby match. Super derby match- classico derby match!
Gratz to Celtic1888 and Scarvice number one and two in the SBI league and in the overall competition. Cruz Azul won week 4 for SBI, finishing 6th overall.
Now, onto the picks:
Team Picks
Take Three – Toronto FC. Déjà vu. The Maple Leafs play two games next week. Two of their next three games are against Dallas and New York.
Take Three – Chicago. The problem with this team is its depth. This team has had Rolfe and Blanco as the 12th and 13th players. That means that the starting lineup can change any week. Chicago is the best team in the league playing at home, against a team that gives up more than one goal a game. Figure out who is going to start this week and pick three.
Avoid – New Yorkat home against RSL. New York also has two games next week. Take an average Red Bull Player, he earns zero fantasy points per game. So over the course of two games in a week, we can expect that player to earn.
Individual picks
Captain – Davey Arnaud. Mr. Wizard is his team’s leading scorer. Chicago is the best team in MLS, but they still give up one and a quarter goals per game. My money is on Arnaud to get the goal.
Value – Gerson Mayen. One of the few players last week to not earn a card, his 175,000 price is rock bottom, while he earns a respectable 10.67 points per game. Remember the Goats play two games next week.
Overpriced – Juan Pablo Angel. He is only earning .6 points per game. For $436,000 we should all expect better.
