John Carver has resigned as head coach of Toronto FC.
The former Newcastle manager's resignation was announced by the club on Saturday, the day before TFC takes on the Kansas City Wizards. The club stated that Carver resigned for personal reasons.
Carver's departure comes less 15 months after he was named head coach, taking over for Mo Johnston, who remains as the club's director of soccer.
Toronto assistants Chris Cummins and Nick Dasovic will oversee the KC match on Sunday. A decision on Carver's replacement is expected to come early next week.
So what happened exactly? There is no word yet other than "personal reasons" cited by the club, but sources have suggested for a long time now that Carver would leave Toronto FC for Newcastle United if and when Alan Shearer ever became manager. With Shearer now the Newcastle manager, and in a fierce battle to avoid relegation, don't be shocked to see Carver on the Newcastle bench as part of Shearer's staff.
What do you think of the news? Think Carver was a good head coach? Who do you see replacing Carver?
