D.C. United's long and torturous search for a stadium suffered another snag after the county council of Prince George's County, Maryland voted unanimously to reject plans to allow the state to study the viability of a soccer stadium in the county.
Let me put that to you simpler terms. Prince George's County rejected the idea of even looking into whether a stadium made sense. This after D.C. United spent months courting Prince George's County and after an initial vote
In other words, D.C. United is back to square one in its search for a stadium.
It is a disheartening blow for a franchise with a strong fan base and impressive history, but still no home of its own. Without a stadium, and the revenue that it would generate, D.C. remains in danger of falling behind the many MLS teams that already have stadiums, and the teams getting stadiums in the near future.
What do you think of this news? Disappointed? Happy that D.C. isn't heading to Maryland (for now)? Worried that D.C. owners might start thinking about relocating the team?
