Thanks for this summary of the call; appreciated not only the quotes but the insight into how the call participants were reacting to the questions.

Do you know what other media events are planned this week?

On an unrelated subject, time to vote for Soccer by Ives as best soccer blog; here's the link:

Just voted for Ives, Tim F. Thanks as always Ives for your insight and beautiful prose. You are the man!

I'm having this nagging wonder if NY should start Kandji in place of Richards on the right wing. Richards is a bit faster running with the ball, but Kandji is taller and a bit stronger. I wonder if the Kandji-Rogers match-up would be more favorable to NY than the Richards-Rogers match-up (Rogers burned Richards and scored earlier in the season).

I also wonder if it would help to have 6'4" Kandji in the box to defend on set pieces and corner kicks because Columbus uses those extensively and to deadly effect.

On another note, while there has been a lot written about how NY uses the counterattack and speed of Richards, as well as flank play in general, there has not been a lot written about how NY does not use set pieces effectively. NY is a team that scores frequently in the run of play or against the run of play, but not on set pieces or dead balls.

Regarding Rojas and Cichero, I'm not too concerned, I don't think either of those guys should start on Sunday. I would prefer to have Ubi than Rojas because Ubi plays as a 2-way midfielder and could greatly help Sassano cover GBS -- which is the most critical task in this game. To win this game, NY needs to mark out GBS and to limit Rogers. Plus they need to not give up set pieces within 30yds of their goal. The VDB-Gaven match-up should limit Gaven's opportunities, although NY will have to be careful about Hejduk's overlaps. At the same time, I fully expect to see Wolyniec run into the hole vacated by Hejduk when the surfer runs up into the Columbus attack. Beware the counter right there.

Any word on ticket sales? Seeing as how these are two teams from the east with little support playing on the west coast it's gotta be a worry.

John..little support? I beg to differ, NY already has more than 118+ traveling fans confirmed and its only tuesday morning.

On set pieces: although they don't seem to be the Red Bulls' strongest suit, both Van den Bergh and Angel have scored scorching free kick goals several times this season.

On support: the Red Bull corporate office sent over 1,000 L.A.-based supporters to the LAG/RB match at the HDC this year, and I expect there will be a whole lot more at the MLS Cup final.

I don't remember Chelsea winning the EPL in '03 with 18 1-0 results.

They won in '05 with something like 10 1-0 results.

Yeah, I thought ManU won the EPL in 2003.

That is one thing I would change about JCO is his way of sitting back and trying to protect a 1-0 lead early in games. He did it at home against Houston and It almost came back to hurt us. He did it again against RSL for the ENTIRE 2nd Half. All though we won I was dissapointed that we bunkered down so early

118+ ny fans... holy smokes! only 26,000+ to go.

anyone heard any definitive word on ticket sales?

I know that Red Bull's corporate office in Santa Monica is buying about 5,000 tickets and giving them to a lot of their employees who made noise when the Bulls were in town to play Chivas earlier this season. Trust me, it will be a sellout by Sunday with a mixture of Crew, Red Bull, Galaxy, Chivas USA and random MLS fans.

As a strong supporter of the Redbulls I am concerned with this game for the leagues sake if the bulls win ugly again. As a player, coach and fan of the game, I have many friends who rather enjoy other leagues and have a hard time watching MLS. I had a few over to watch Crew vs Fire and witnessed a brilliant MLS game and they commented on how the MLs has come along. Then we watch the bulls basically play high school soccer and just kick the ball out to defend a lead. Many non-mls fans may tune into this game and the product (if the redbulls continue this strategy) will be awful! The media has given no attention to this game on Long Island the Redbulls themselves should be promoting the game. If the Redbulls win (I hope they do!)and have a celebration it will be me, you and the 180 fans that attend the final and thats it! This is a bad message to send, that the largest market can;t compete with fans. There are millions of soccer fans in the tri-state area that are educated about the game and are turned off by the direct antics and style of play of the Redbulls. I hope I am wrong and the Bulls play awsome win and sell out evry game at the Arena next year!

I love this Team and i believe that is the most organized soccer team in the U.S, with amazing players as well. I really like the style of Juan Pietravallo. He is a fast player that could mark and pressure any other player, also he gives accurate passes.
I would like to see him play on the field often.
Thanks.
