Good buildup by RSL to go up on aggregate again. They got some swag going.
Posted by: Blake | November 08, 2008 at 11:18 PM
Got it. Thanks for the help guys. RSL looked strong in the 20 min I saw
Posted by: Original Aaron | November 08, 2008 at 11:39 PM
What a freakin battle between Olave and Harris tonight. Someone's gonna lose it soon.
Posted by: Betinho | November 08, 2008 at 11:47 PM
Calzaghe knocked down in the 1st. Oh wrong sport...
Posted by: Betinho | November 08, 2008 at 11:52 PM
This game has been really good so far. Two teams capable of scrappy excitement.
Posted by: Blake | November 08, 2008 at 11:52 PM
Damnit. I really dont like RSL. This really sucks. Huuuuuh wish I had more beer.
Posted by: Krista | November 09, 2008 at 12:16 AM
Braun's goal was a "nice shot of injection to the Chivas bench"
Hahaha that's the cherry on top of a sundae of amusing announcer lines tonight.
Posted by: Blake | November 09, 2008 at 12:21 AM
Blake, Are you remering to Christopher saying "No!" after the 2nd RSL goal?
Posted by: Betinho | November 09, 2008 at 12:24 AM
Among other things, yeah.
Posted by: Blake | November 09, 2008 at 12:25 AM
I really would like to see overtime! This is a good game!
Posted by: Betinho | November 09, 2008 at 12:27 AM
88 min now...guys keep the talk coming I'm following the game from a bar via black berry. No FSC.
Posted by: kebzach | November 09, 2008 at 12:27 AM
Fair enough. This game is absolutely nuts, but Findley looks as likely to score as Chivas is, if not more. 5 minutes of stoppage.
Posted by: Blake | November 09, 2008 at 12:28 AM
we're in injury time
Posted by: Betinho | November 09, 2008 at 12:29 AM
RSL free kick 20 yards out a the 3 minmark....killing time...no effort on goal
Posted by: Betinho | November 09, 2008 at 12:30 AM
lost my feed...but the two other times that's happened Chivas has scored...
Posted by: Betinho | November 09, 2008 at 12:31 AM
wow. Wonderful time for the stream to go bad.
Posted by: Blake | November 09, 2008 at 12:32 AM
Okay, I picked up the spanish stream and its over, RSL wins it. Preki looks like he could kill a man. That was one of the better MLS games I've ever seen, up there with the DCU-Fire second leg last year.
Posted by: Blake | November 09, 2008 at 12:33 AM
RSL makes their first second round. Chivas missed a few amazing shots at the end. Rimando >> Thornton.
Christian Miles and the FSC crew are usually amusing.
Posted by: Igor | November 09, 2008 at 12:33 AM
I swear...i seriously missed both Chivas goals and now the end of the game. Whatever.
Good game. I was pulling for Chivas but RSL played great and deserve the win. Kreis has done an amazing job with that team.
Posted by: Betinho | November 09, 2008 at 12:34 AM
Thanks guys. Appreciate it.
Posted by: kebzach | November 09, 2008 at 12:35 AM
No problem...shot for me please :)
Posted by: Betinho | November 09, 2008 at 12:36 AM
RSL is fun to watch. Beckermann is an absolute warrior and Morales has incredible creativity. They're probably overachieving, but it's a neat story. They seem to have good fans too, looked like they had quite a few at the HDC.
Posted by: Blake | November 09, 2008 at 12:38 AM
Garber probably just chucked his chair across the room. Last chance for an LA team in the final at HDC goes out the window.

Shots are on their way boys. Drink up!
Posted by: kebzach | November 09, 2008 at 12:41 AM
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought Sullivan wanted Chivas to win...Terrible officiating as well, the game got out of hand early and was very chippy going down the stretch, but a great result for RSL!
Posted by: clayg | November 09, 2008 at 01:01 AM
It was obvious that FSC was favoring Chivas USA. The better team won tonight.
Posted by: Andrew | November 09, 2008 at 02:12 AM
The Chivas (and RSL)fans were great tonight. Great atmosphere, fierce battles, quality goals. Very good match to watch. And whoever says Yura sucks has no clue what they are talking about.

Great game, too bad the regular season games are not that intense.
Posted by: Jags98 | November 09, 2008 at 07:36 AM
RSL is not overachieving. They have been building towards this all year. This team was 85% overhauled last year and they have been continuing to gel all year long. They have a 7 game unbeaten streak.
Posted by: Hincha Tim | November 09, 2008 at 09:54 AM
What is pitiful is that Jason Kries was not nominated for coach of the year and Javier Morales for MVP.
Posted by: Hincha tim | November 09, 2008 at 09:56 AM
Some follow up comments...
Name any sport where the regular season is as intense as the playoffs. It just doesn't happen and for good reason.
As for rsl not getting nominated for awards...sometimes those things seem to happen a year later. So if kries does a good job again next year he might get nominated even if its not as good of a performance as this year was.
Finally...can anyone offer up any excuse for the lack of defending from sasha k on the 2nd salt lake goal? He literally rolled out a red carpet for the dude! Incredible that he just stayed out of the way rather than attempting to defend the teams season.
Posted by: kebzach | November 09, 2008 at 10:06 AM
I think the NFL regular season is fairly intense, due to the fact they only have 16 games, and every single one is critical. On the second RSL goal, it looked to be a combination of Morales making a great move and Sacha not wanting to commit a foul in the box. Can anyone say "ole'"?
Posted by: SonicDeathMonkey | November 09, 2008 at 10:48 AM
this was a great game, I was there last night. My friend and I sat with the 200 hundred something RSL fans that made the trip...My friend and I went just so we could root against chivas haha

F*ck RSL. I hope they have fun getting their a$$es handed to them by Houston.
Posted by: whocares | November 09, 2008 at 02:05 PM
Intense? Take a look at other professional sports, do the sudden death/overtimes = the number of draws the mls teams have? Nope, mls teams have as many draws as they do Ws or Ls. I am not wanting to go to draw breakers, but each team could actually try harder or go for the win. They all play to sit back and not get a L. Arena's philosphy- dont go for it.
Posted by: Jags98 | November 09, 2008 at 02:44 PM
Yeah, RSL...whocares has a great point! Have fun getting your a$$ handed to you by Houston, because it's not going to happen. Go Red Bulls! RSL v NY should be a good match.
Posted by: Brian Ching | November 09, 2008 at 04:39 PM
RSL gets another shot a NY in Rio Tinto. I will be there, and it will be a fantastic game.

I am going with a group of people this weekend to the big game. RSL is going back to L.A. and will hoist the cup! Wow, what an amazing season. If we do pull this off hopefully we aren't like the Rockies where we are awful for our entire existence, have one good playoff run, and go back to our old ways.
Posted by: Snare | November 09, 2008 at 07:48 PM
It has been clear by the officiating during the RSL vs. Chivas series that not only were FSC pulling for Chivas, but the officals were pulling for the goats as well. Explain how Harris can have 9 fouls without a yellow card, or how he can stomp on Olave's ankle in clear view of the 4th offical and not get carded or even a foul called.
RSL had to battle against 12 men in both legs of this one and proved both times to be the better team. This was the most exciting series I can remember in MLS with non stop action in both matches.
RSL played New York to a draw a couple weeks ago, but had a lot of distractions, this matchup should be exciting as the two battle it out. Can't wait.

yeah, kljestan looked bad defending morale son the 2nd goal, but maybe he just got forzen by javier's skills. seriously, very nice finish from jm, cutting away from kljestan and then tuckiing through the 2nd defender's legs (was that thomas with the wide stance begging to be megged?). of course thornton was somewhat screened, not expecteding the shot to come through the defnder and had no chance as it was nicely placed in the lower far post corner. all around a classy play from the rsl mvp.
