DeRosario is a thug. The league needs to punish instigators just like they do in hockey. That was all on the Houston forward. Sure, Wingers and Ashe were getting into it in terms of fighting for the ball, and I'm sure that they both had their heartrate up already. Then in comes DeRosario, completely uninvolved, and blindsides Chris. What do you expect him to do?

Should Chris have been sent off? Yes. But the assistant or someone should have pointed out to the ref (who obviously is in over his heard - like most MLS refs) that DeRosario had absolutely no reason to be getting involved and should have gotten at the very least a yellow.

Absolutely pathetic. That is schoolyard bs - something the league should not allow. The fact that they can't seem to police crap like that makes us look bush league more than anything else.

RSL should of won. They were so much more creative on offense and solid on defense.

I agree with James. DeRosario is a cheap shot artist and a thug. He should have gotten a card for instigating that fight, as well as numerous other cheap shots he continuously took during the game. In fact, the entire Houston team resorted to cheap shots on and off the ball all game long. They certainly are a bunch of thugs, I guess who knows their time has past, so are resorting to such tactics in frustration.

Excellent recaps of the match from both sides. In the comments we see the typical blind bias by jingoistic supporters, but the recaps were balanced and insightful despite being from completely different angles.

RSL should blame themselves for their lack of finishing. They should have had three points; Houston wasn't going to score, that's for sure.

As for the brutal physicality on the field, I thought RSL gave more than they got. Except for Eddie Robinson (who did not play) Houston is one of the least thuggish teams in the league. They were a bit more physical in this match because the host and officials had established that the match would be a physical one. Sometimes the constant battering, when unchecked by the officials, leads to hot tempers, which is what led to the red card at the end of the game.

The fight was really the Refs fault in the first place. If he had done his job and blown play dead when Ching played dead in RSL's half during an RSL attack, and not left it up to Morales to play the ball out of bounds (RSL didn't receive the ball back from Houston) then things would have been physical, but not at the fever pitch of the last 20 minutes of the game.

RSL created fantastic chances. From my angle it really looked like Deuchar saved a goal when he flicked Morales' free kick over the bar. Onstad really wasn't reacting to save it, and looked like he didn't see it.

As an RSL fan this draw feels like a loss.

Jingoistic? So it has nothing to do with his actions and everything to do with what?

Please.

Oh, and keep telling yourself that Houston isn't a physical team. Yeah, that's not "biased."

During this game, we witnessed MLS officiating at its best. If I am recounting correctly, there were three times where RSL was on a break away, and the play was stopped because of a tackle from behind by a Houston player. The ref only went as far as giving a yellow card. How many times does a team need to continue the same BS before the ref will hand out a red card to deter the same incident from happening again? Also, I have never seen a ref stop a game before the announced time given in extra time in any other league, yet this year alone, RSL has seen it twice???

Secondly, some may see RSL fans as being pretty classless (throwing crap on the field because of suspect calls), but Houston has to be the biggest bunch of thugs in the league. Morales was in a fairly good field position, yet played the ball out for the injured player, and when game resumes, Houston plays on like they had the ball to begin with? Good sportsmanship. Let's not get started with DeIdiot.

Adam G, this game should feel like a loss to you. RSL definitely had the more dangerous chances.

Heffe, regarding the stoppage time, the full 4 minutes were played according to what the ref indicated. The problem was that 2 minutes of that stoppage time was wasted by the red card scrum. (Wingert's red card looked pretty soft to me, and I don't think it was due to a 2nd yellow.) Thus, only 2 minutes of the stoppage was actually "played." Two minutes should have been added to account for this, giving us 6 minutes of stoppage time altogether. Might have been a blessing given that RSL was down to 10 men though.

Regarding the Morales play: Houston's Barrett had the ball, then stopped to kick the ball out of bounds. Morales intercepted the ball before he realized that he got the ball only because Barrett was intentionally kicking the ball out due to the downed player. It was the Dynamo's ball originally; Salt Lake's ball only because of the attempt to kick the ball out of play. Houston could rightly claim the ball was theirs. And even if they shouldn't, it was close enough to not be worthy of generating contempt.
