Gallardo and Peralta to have surgery

Marcelo_gallardo_ap

D.C. United's recent domination of MLS will get just a bit tougher to maintain after word earlier today from the team that Marcello Gallardo and Gonzalo Peralta will both require sports hernia surgery. Both players are in Germany, where they will undergo operations in the next two days.

Gallardo and Peralta are expected to be sidelined for 1-2 weeks.

in other D.C. United news, the team has signed former San Jose and New York Red Bulls midfielder Joe Vide. The move comes amid word from sources that D.C. is shopping one of its midfielders.

How will D.C. handle life without Gallardo? Which midfielder do you think D.C. is shopping? Do you think Joe Vide will help?

I assume they are shopping Dyachenko as he is so inconsistent.

Hmm... I could maybe see them shopping Dyachenko, in exchange for a broken coffee cup and some used toilet paper.

Seriously though, maybe Fred? He hasn't done a whole lot this year, and maybe someone might be willing to part with a true winger in exchange.

Who is DC shopping? Rod and Kirk seem like the only options

Couldn't happen to a nicer team.

Probably Dyachenko. He's the only one who hasn't shown well but may also have some trade value.

Fred has been a huge disappointment, in my opinion. DC is a team that never seems to gel. They just don't seem like a team, unlike Houston, where everyone seems to work hard for each other.

Who could possibly want Dyachenko, though? Unless they're shopping to USL teams.

Both Dyachenko and Fred are providing cover for Gallardo, so my money's on Kirk. He's got a good reputation but clearly hasn't impressed considering they dragged a D-III player off the street and played him on the right side.

I hope DC gets a 2 for 1 deal with all the injuries on the roster. Fred could be the target player. He is a better player than Dyachenko.

United needs all the help in the world, the last two matches in the Superliga have been awful.

Gotta be Dyachenko. He just doesn't have it at this level. They are really short wingers so Fred seems unlikely. With Gallardo and Olsen out, can't be Simms although with a healthy midfield he'd be one I'd shop around.

I can see one sports hernia. Freak injury - it happens. But two simultaneously?

Simutaneously is right? things that make you go hmmmm.... How close are those guys?

I grew tired of the Rod Dyachenko experiment when Freddy Adu was still on the team. If United can package Rod and Quavas Kirk for a servicable player (or some allocation money), I'd be ecstatic. Trading for a draft pick would be adequate, but DCU's front office views the draft with the same intensity that I view the dumpster behind McDonalds: "There are definitely some delicious nuggets in there, but I don't have the stomach or the energy to start searching."

Looks highly likely that DC is shopping Quavas Kirk, who has barely been playing for them this year. Not to mention that DC has brought an Argentine right wing in on trial, so there must be little to no faith in Kirk over there.

NY should jump on this opportunity immediately and pick up Kirk and his GA status. I think Kirk is a good player who was underrated in LA and DC. Rongen thought highly of him and would have included him in last year's U-20s had he not gotten injured.

In light of that, I think Kirk could play either right wing or right back and challenge Dane Richards and Hunter Freeman, as well as providing quality depth on that side (and the Red Bulls are thin there).

C'mon Osorio, make it happen. The guy is free (or practically free) to the salary cap and there's got to be upside for this former US youth national team player if he was still in consideration for the U-20s national team just last year.

They had to travel across the Atlantic for a simple sports hernia surgery? Were the hospitals in the DC area all booked up or what?

LOL @ DWE4.

@ Joey, the doctor is a specialist in sports hernias that uses a different technique that allows most patients to recover in 2-3 weeks as opposed to 6 weeks. If you're a pro athlete, you go see her.

Dr. Muschawek is the gold standard for quick hernia repair. I hope kirk is on the block, for his sake, he needs playing time and doesn't seem to be earning it at rfk, he's looked raw but with moments of brilliance in first team play and has done well in the reserves. But since Thompson has more pt this week than kirk all season, it looks like he's too much of a project for Dcu, not a team known for projects...

Also, Kirk has the unfortunate stigma of being American. Apparently when faced with the opportunity to scoop up no-name South American talent, DC United has no use for a talented kid who doesn't even count against the salary cap (Gen. Adidas).

Look, DC is well known for developing young talent. Just look at the great jobs they did on Freddy Adu and Santino Quaranta...

I say let other teams "develop" 24 year old college players who inevitably go to Europe after a good season, while we buy off the rack and win trophies.

@ jrnail23:

Kirk's nationality doesn't matter. I've seen pretty much every minute he has played for both the senior team and the reserves. He has no first touch and can't really cross the ball. The latter is a bit of an issue given that he plays on the wing.

He has good size and OK speed, but he doesn't catch the eye as he did when he first came on the scene.

One could only hope we're shopping Dyachenko...

But you never know... Fred might be on the block. Believe it or not.
