D.C. United-Houston Dynamo match postponed (again)
Tonight's match between D.C. United and the Houston Dynamo at RFK Stadium has been postponed due to blackouts in the D.C. area, D.C. United announced on its team blog.
Tonight's match was the replay of the match the teams attempted to play on June 4 before torrential rans forced the game to be abandoned.
The match will be played on Wednesday night. What that means for Dwayne DeRosario and Pat Onstad playing in the MLS All-Star Game in Toronto on Thursday night remains to be seen. And sorry fantasy MLS players, no word yet on whether you'll have another day to set your lineups.

They ever hear of "generators"?

One more reminder for fans to push the D.C. Council for the new stadium. RFK is literally on the edge of crumbling. Quite frankly I'm surprised it's still even considered operational. Of course with a weaker economy and D.C. politics...

complete bush league. Now what are all the All-Star players going to do?

Have a well-deserved rest, perhaps?

How does this affect the All-Stars? Dero and Onstad? Will they be flying up to the All-Star game on Thursday?

Because the lights are "Blacked" out. Although, your logic is undeniable.

what all-star players? oh, you mean Onstad and De Rosario? eh, it's not like there aren't convenient flights to Toronto from Suburban Virginia.
question is, since there are heavy t-storms predicted for tomorrow night, is this game just plain cursed?
and the power outage isn't just RFK, there are problems all over the area right now.

According to Bernardo Fallas at the Houston Chronicle, DeRo and Onstad will be in DC for tomorrow's game and Holden and Ianni will be as well (they were supposed to fly to Cali for Olympic Camp). Full strength for us.

Northzax, this isn't the first time RFK has had problems with the lights. There was a game back in 2000 that was called for similar reasons. It's not so much just the power failure. A power failure could happen in many facilities (especially with Washington summers and all their thunderstorms). However, where are the back-up generators? It's more a reminder that RFK is a brittle, aging facility woefully inadequate to continue hosting major league sporting events in the U.S. It shows in the peeling paint, creaky stands, minuscule bathrooms, etc. As a D.C. local I love the old place but its time has passed. An event like this just reinforces that fact. Unfortunately, United will have to just make do until the new stadium proposals can move forward through the labyrinthine and intensely political D.C. and federal government processes. Hopefully, a more serious accident or incident won't happen before then.
