Ha, ha! Good one! Your Claudi snipe was pretty good also. The man should call it a day, today.

Claudio Reyna.....

HAS BEEN????

ALL SIGNS POINT TO YES

He should simply make less money is all. If you guys honestly can't see what he brings to the game, sorry, but you don't know anything about the sport. Sorry, true fans don't get all googly eyed for a guy just because he scores 10 goals from midfield. True fans understand how the game works.

IF he retired due to injury, fine. Being able to actually PLAY is a huge part of the game. But the more guys like you say he's a "has been," the more you prove your own stupidity and lack of knowledge of the game itself.

As for the game, neither team played well. If anything it should have been 1-0 to the Red Bulls after that pathetic phantom dive/foul that led to Toronto's goal (whereas the foul that led to the Red Bulls' goal at least was an ACTUAL hand ball). Having said that, neither team was any good, neither really deserved 3 points. RBNY simply should have won based on the rules of the game.

I would have to agree, labeling Reyna a 'has been' is a bit over the top. Injuries are one thing but the man is still quite capable of playing...when he can.

As for the Toronto goal, it appeared to me that they did not ask for a measurement of the distance to the wall which means they dont need a whistle to take the shot.

@kpugs:
Yup, neither team played very well, I agree; but to suggest that Marshall's hand played the ball and not vice versa is going a bit far. He knew nothing of it. Neither free kick that lead to goals should have been awarded.

I agree with you Skinn. By all rights that game should have been a nil-nil draw.

Reyna is very much a has been. He's a fraction of the former player....injuries have taken their toll.

Sure, he's having a half decent year (though he weakly left the field at HT in this one) but that doens't mean he's a shadow of his former days. He's not a standout in MLS, and that says a lot. Sure he's solid - anyonewith his experience certainly hsould be that at the least. Only thing that stands out about Reyna these days is his salary.

Aljarov put it perfectly. When you think of RBNY, he is the 4th person you think about. Altidore, JPA, JCO, and then maybe Reyna. He can still play, but he is most definitely a has been.

I wonder how much money RB is losing since they pay Reyna that much cash, have Crew-esque attendance, are going to lose there most promising player by the end of the summer (Jozy), and have another DP that looks like he is destined for a "sophmore slump".

I meant, "are going to lose THEIR most promising player".

Did Toronto fans come up with a single clever sign and are now going to milk it for all it's worth?

All signs, unfortunately, point to yes.

-Mike

To be fair Mikemike, several RBNY fans have been voicing that general feeling on this blog for about a year (and one person echoing the infamous sign here is hardly "milking" it). I don't know whether the sign says more about the lack of originality on the part of the sign makers, or about their ability to express so succinctly a feeling among a slice of the RBNY faithful.

Nice try Skinn, but Kpugs looks at the world through RBNY-coloured glasses. I assume he will respond with a presonal attack shortly (when I made the same comment the night of the game he mentioned he wanted to punch me in the face...).
Not much point in objectivity with that one...

Yeah it'll be along the lines of "why don't you log in with a real name" or something like that. You know all true fans have typepad logins to prove their real identities, surely.

We'll see how he responds. If it's as you predict Mike, then perhaps I'm just one of those people who, as he says, "don't know anything about the sport." I do enjoy his posts though, but I'm not sure their worth a punch to the face...maybe the neck.

Stammler is so good.
I'd love to have him in our backline @ BMO Field. He was the most impressive NYRB player in my opinion.
