No Kaka for Brazil tour of USA

American soccer fans hoping to catch a glimpse of AC Milan star Kaka during Brazil's two-match tour of the United States won't be so lucky. The 2007 FIFA World player of the year underwent knee surgery on Friday that will force him to miss Brazil's friendlies against Canada (in Seattle on May 31) and Venezuela (in Foxboro on June 6).

More importantly for Brazil, Kaka could is hoping to be back in time for Brazil's World Cup qualifiers against Paraguay on June 15 and Argentina on June 18.

Kaka's absence strikes another blow to a Brazil tour of the U.S. that will already be missing Ronaldinho. There is still some star power, led by youngsters Alexandre Pato and Robinho.

Shame for Kaka;

Ives on another note, DaMarcus Beasley, started, scored a goal, and assisted on the winner as Rangers won the Scottish Cup final over Queen of the South. He also drew the free kick for the opener, and celebrates his birthday today with a Scottish Cup winners medal. Nice.

DMB was subbed off at 75 minutes with a cramp, but as it was his first start in six months, I'd still fully expect him to feature at the outset against England.

I'm sure Brazil will do just fine in attracting fans even if Kaka is not available. His absence might disappoint a few fans, but they're a small band between casual fans who are interested in the Brazilian mystique and the more engaged fans who actually know the names of other players from Brazil and something about where they are, etc. More likely is that casual fans will say "no Kaka? Well, as long as Ronaldo or some other cool Brazilian's there it's cool."

This will be a good opportunity to see some of the new Brazilian talent in action, namely Marcelo (Real Madrid), Thiago Silva (Fluminense), and Alexandre Pato. As a plus, let's see how Adriano performs now that Dunga is giving a chance. He had a good 1st semester with Sao Paulo FC.

Disappointing, to be sure, but neither Kaka nor Ronaldinho participated in Brazil's Copa America victory over the loaded Argentina squad. Take two masterpieces out of the Lourve and its still the best museum in the world.

This sucks! I bought tickets knowing Ronaldinho wont be available. I thought Kaka atleast would be...I think Seattle will still pull 40k fans.
