Good morning all. I'm busy going through final candidates for the SBI team correspondent positions (and there are some quality candidates) but I did find time to crank out answers to some of your questions from last week's Q&A.
Here are some of your questions answered. Look for the next installment very soon.
ERIC- What are your thoughts on the Tottenham Hotspur organization, as a whole?
To me, of all the non-Big 4 clubs, they seem like a sleeping giant. Not just because of money and resources, but they also seem to have bought smart in the transfer market.
They've made a commitment to keeping guys like Berba, Keane, Lennon, etc. and have brought in a slew of young defenders and midfielders. Now, with Ramos, it seems like they are an offseason away from really being a force in the Premier League.
Of the USA's three big-time friendlies coming up (England, Spain, Argentina), in which game do you think they have the best shot at winning?
MIGHTY- Seeing how well the United States team play against Poland, how do you rate Coach Bradley? What are his strongest points and his weakest?
Also how do you feel with the United States team so Far? are they meeting your expectations?
2) Do you have an opinion on if Seattle MLS discards the name "Sounders"?
IVES- I was planning to post the results of all that information, including where SBI readers were from and what teams had the most supporters. Unfortunately I got caught up in actually running the new site. I do need to post that stuff but of course we're four months away from when I gathered the information and the numbers have certainly changed. Look for me to post something in the next week.
FROG- What kind of year do you see Mike Magee having if he can stay healthy? Is he really the answer playing behind the forwards?
IVES- When healthy, Magee has the vision and skill to be a quality playmaker. The question is whether he can stay healthy. I know there have been questions about his work ethic in the past but I think Juan Carlos Osorio has had a good influence on him.
I haven't complimented you yet, but I've been enjoying the new site since day 1. Thanks for all the info and analysis.
IVES- Thanks BJR, I appreciate it. As for keeping all those players on the field at the same time, I think you could have an attack like this:
------------Altidore-----Dempsey-----------------
Beasley----------- Adu-------------------Donovan
-------------------Bradley--------------------------
Whats your favorite food / dish/ meal(Argentine Milanesa with Ensalada Rusa or the basic Argie BBQ does it for me)?
Is there the possiblilty of the U.S. Open Cup winner gaining a slot?
Thanks.
IVES- Have not heard the MLS qualification format for the Champions League yet and having the U.S. Open Cup winner of the previous year be one of the teams in it makes a lot of sense.
ARTC- 1) Why, in your opinion, is Donovan usually selected for taking the free kicks for the national team? He is too inconsistent.
2) Who in your opinion, should be the main selection as the choice for free kicks at the national level? I saw Lewis has a good talent, but he will not be around for the 2010 World Cup. I can see Adu in the future for the senior team. I actually remember Dulo being decent at it also. Donovan is usually only good for corner, or lobbing kicks, not a free kick on goal.

Bradley to St. Pauli? In my dreams... Are the German teams interested big names?

Paul Robinson WAS a quality goalkeeper. ;)

And Kev, Tottenham NEEDS a top goalkeeper.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but do Spurs have a quality youth team setup? I didn't think they did. I know the tendency of EPL teams post Chelsea is to try and buy success over the offseason, but to me, it's smarter long term to build a team through your youth system. Sure, I agree that they'll probably place top 4 next year if they can find a defense, but what then? What happens when the coach inevitably moves on or gets fired, and the players he brought in no longer want to play for the new guy?

"The last I heard he [Angulo] was close to signing a contract with an undisclosed club. I hope to find out more today."
Thanks! When do discovery claims expire? One year? If that's the case, and New England's claim is set to expire in August, Angulo should sign a four month deal and join the team he really wants to play for in time for the playoffs.

Spurs has some great young midfielders and defenders right now. Bale, Hutton, Taarabt, Lennon, Prince-Boateng, O'Hara, etc.
I don't think they need much up top. Berbatov and Keane form a great partnership, and Bent was, once upon a time, one of the top scorers in the league.
Obviously, it all depends on the style of play Ramos determines is his choice. That could mean one or two of the strikers go, he wants someone more experienced that Gareth Bale on the left, etc.
But - yeah - they DEFINITELY need a keeper. Maybe Keller would come back one last time? :)

In regards to Michael Bradley, the German teams rumorued to be interested include Werder Bremen, Stuttgart, and maybe Hamburg? I've also read about the English teams, most notably Everton and Manchester United. IMHO, United would be a terrible career move for Bradley, as he'll never get a game going up against Carrick, Hargreaves, Scholes and the like....he should go to Bremen, where he'll get European action and have other solid playmakers around him.

Adu not a starter? I think whether he is ready or not, we should throw him in a center mid right now and get him as much seasoning as possible. Whether he is there or not, eventually that will be his position, and with the current state of affairs on the Nats, he is as good a choice as any. Do we really want to go through another World Cup with Donovan as the guy that leads the team? I think not. Donovan is simply not good enough for the big time. I would only change my opinion of Donovan if he wins MLS MVP this year. If he can't do that with Beckham serving him the ball, then I think it is safe to say that Donovan has hit the wall on his growth...
The same for GAM...He has no heart. Ching and Altidore up top. EJ might be worth a bench spot, but I am not so sure about that yet.

I was wondering how many foreighn players can Toronto have?
Is it 8 foreigners plus 5 americans? that would make it 13, but it appears they have like 16 or 17, isnt that a little unfair?

San Jose Stadium Deal: Without going into great detail, it's on track. There is land by the SJ airport that would be used for a general redevelopment including hotels, retail, offices and a stadium. Lewis Wolff will pay for this himself in exchange for the City changing the zoning on a separate parcel he already owns from industrial to residential. He's sell the land once it is rezoned and use the profits to pay for the project.
It's a win-win that has been getting support at each milestone. It will happen.

Questions for next time.
Questions for next time.
1) Ives, do you think that Bob Bradley, depending on his long term success with the US National Team, could be the first American coach to make a successful move abroad at a top level (EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga, etc) league?
2) With the possibility of Brian McBride playing in the Olympics at the end of the summer how sweet would it be to bring him back into the MNT for his last game with the senior team at Wembley vs. England, as preparation for the Olympics?
.
3) MLS related...will Alexi Lalas ever work in the MLS ever again after he gets fired half-way through this season?!
Thanks for answering these questions.

Questions for next time:
DC United has a HUGE blank front of their jerseys. Is there a sponsor in the works or are they essentially saying "your ad here"? Thanks.

Ives (or anyone),
Does anyone remember that Uruguayan kid, Jonathan Sabbitini at the 2008 combine?
He was supposed to be the best prospect there. I take it he has yet to sign.
ANy word on him? No one made an offer?
Thanks
