that is the most depressing thing i've ever seen.

I'm sorry, but that is definitely not worse than the Mendes-Conway fiasco.

ROFLMAO! That makes me feel so much better about Mendes' "backpass" against the Revs last season.

The Rio Ferdinand own goal for Man U last year was pretty close, too. But this sucks just for the situation - save a PK and your defense ruins it.

Ives, you should point out that this is a Hungarian Cup Final game, which makes it all the more devestating

Throwing the match? I sure hope he got paid for this.

Bad, but not even close to the worst ever. This was a reaction play, he's trying to smash the ball out of danger and smashes it in instead. Worse are the own goals when the player has time to think (but doesn't). They're all painful, though.

I think I agree with Mary. That's awful.

NICE SHOT!..I mean clearance. :)

i just watched it about 20 times in a row.
the reaction of his team is priceless, it's like one of those mass cult suicides crossed w/ simultaneous migraines headaches.

Nice one, Ives. Since we're talking Own Goals: try this one for pure humiliation...

Check out the smile on the Ref's face. It looks like he is trying not to laugh.

What a great Strike! I wish I could hit the corner with that kind of ease and grace. :-)

That's pretty bad, but the worst I've ever seen is here in this clip. The clip that comes up is a combination of about 10 horrible goalie mistakes, but the one that happens at around the 20 second mark is just the worst own goal I've ever seen (I just don't understand what happened). Wish I could get a longer clip of it with sound (and replays of other angles and such).

MLS needs to get someone similar.

LMAO, that was so pathetic.

Ah, the depths of which Hungarian soccer has fallen. Hajra Fradi!

Szep gol volt...mi boj van? Jo magyar fozi.
The announcers were even funnier....they scream own goal, he says, "that's unbelievable."

I'm sorry i think Mendes - Conway own goal last year was worse than this, simply because Conway had soooo much time to save it LOL
Posted by: MasterShake | April 06, 2008 at 09:34 PM
That has got to be the worst luck I've seen on the pitch in awhile!
Posted by: Felix | April 06, 2008 at 10:21 PM
class finish!
Posted by: jason | April 06, 2008 at 11:02 PM
that's either heinous or a poorly disguised throwing of a game. I'm going with a thrown match.
I refuse to believe ANY player has that big of a lack of skill that he felt no confidence to play it out another way given that NO ONE else crashed the box. Pathetic.
Posted by: papa bear | April 07, 2008 at 07:46 AM
You gotta admit he really bent that thing in there. Thierry Henry couldn't have went for the far post any better.
Posted by: zackc | April 07, 2008 at 09:06 AM
great shot, upper 90!!
Posted by: fieldsy | April 07, 2008 at 05:31 PM
Actually, as someone who once zoned out while rebounding in a b-ball game and put the rebound up for two...in our own end, I can tell you, I think this guy was trying to score -- and didn't realize until he'd struck it what he was doing.
