New England Revolution forward Taylor Twellman will miss the U.S. national team's friendly against Mexico on Wednesday in Houston after suffering a groin strain in national team camp on Thursday.
The U.S. has yet to reveal its roster for Wednesday's match. Mexico released its roster for the match on Thursday.

So no Twellman...No Johnson...Maybe no Dempsey...Yeah, things sure are looking good for us now!

On the bright side, we'll pretty much have to play Altidore now, won't we?
Is Ching available?
Posted by: AJ | February 01, 2008 at 07:45 PM
Never want to see a guy get hurt, but I hope this helps to get Altidore into the lineup.
Posted by: Mark | February 01, 2008 at 07:46 PM
Groin, not hammie.
Posted by: EssEff | February 01, 2008 at 07:47 PM
I think Ching is still injured. And whatever happened to Mastroeni, why didn't he get invited to camp?
Posted by: Freddy | February 01, 2008 at 07:47 PM
Sorry he's hurt, but it makes me more excited for the game. I know thats cold-hearted, but sorry...

Great. I can't wait for the Rolfe-Donovan tandem again.
Sigh...

i like twellmen alot but lets face it hes not good enough to play on the national team. I say we should focus on how altidore and adu played at the under 20 world cup. come 2010 i believe that is the best pairing we have, so lets start them playing togetheir now.

Ives,
Any of the U-23's expected to be named to the roster? Also, any ideas what Euro based players Emperor Bradley plans on calling?
Posted by: Freddy | February 01, 2008 at 07:52 PM
Ives,
the link you have says it's a groin injury. May just want to update that.
Posted by: Nick G. | February 01, 2008 at 07:55 PM
So, uh, we have Donovan, Rolfe, and White as the only forwards in camp currently?
Do you think Ives would call any players away from the U23 camp for the match?
Posted by: Bryan | February 01, 2008 at 08:18 PM
Sorry, that last line should read:
Ives, do you think *Bob* would call any players away from the U23 camp for the match?
Posted by: Bryan | February 01, 2008 at 08:19 PM
Too bad he wasn't playing for that fantastic Preston team over seas. Yet another reason to want to move from MLS to a crappy European squad. Too bad Taylor.
Boo hoo.
Posted by: Danny | February 01, 2008 at 08:19 PM
Well with Landon Rolfe and Chris Donovan I don't understand how anybody can think we don't have a guaranteed win against El Tri!
Posted by: Freddy | February 01, 2008 at 08:23 PM
Does this mean Jozy will get a shot? I know he is at the U23 camp but that closes on 2/3. Jozy said on his blog that Bob told him that he could be joining for the Mexico game. I really hope so. Since Eddie isn't coming and Clint has played every match for struggling Fulham. It would be a good run out for Jozy to test himself against Marquez and crew. I want to win but I think that we need to get Jozy more involved with the guys he will play with in WCQ and WC2010.

Great now our best player is hurt. I wonder whos gunna score our goals now...
Posted by: Sean H. | February 01, 2008 at 08:52 PM
I am really anxious to see our STRONGEST squad come together. Not since the Brasil game in Chicago (which was the 1st USMNT game i've been to) have we had anything close. Bring on the qualifiers!

I hate to sound like I'm wishing injury on the guy, I'm not, but anything that keeps Twellman out of the lineup is a positive thing. He has no business being called up every again.
Posted by: papa bear | February 01, 2008 at 09:12 PM
I'm with papabear, nothing against Twellman but this may be a good thing.
And yes, I do believe Bradley could and will recall Altidore up from the U-23 camp.
On another note, Dempsey should be able to play and is likely to be called up.
And Freddy, Mastroeni has been out of the national picture for awhile, well, a few months and at least for the last half-year. It's clear he's not in the picture for the next WC. What with so many promising center mids in M. Bradley, R. Clark, M. Edu and maybe B. Feilhaber if he ever gets first-team minutes/regains form.

I wanna see Conrad/DeMerit. Gooch can't keep up with Dos Santos, sorry.
Posted by: Amit | February 01, 2008 at 09:31 PM
I'm not sure I agree with you Dominghosa. Mastroeni could provide the veteran leadership USA needs in 2010. My one problem with him is that he is a magnet for yellow cards and takes unnecessary chances with the tackles he chooses. But I wouldn't write him off just yet.
Posted by: Freddy | February 01, 2008 at 09:40 PM
NOOOOOOOO! Not Twellman! Now who's going to waste all of our chances in front of an empty goal?
Posted by: kpugs | February 01, 2008 at 09:48 PM
Great now our best player is hurt. I wonder whos gunna score our goals now...

LMAO!!!!!!!!! thats funny
Posted by: MAX | February 01, 2008 at 09:56 PM
lol funny stuff kpugs!
Posted by: Freddy | February 01, 2008 at 09:58 PM
freddy, The negative reasons you gave about Pablo is probably one of the main reasons why he's not in there. Though Bradley also goes in with stupid challenges late in games. But he's also much younger.
Posted by: Dominghosa | February 01, 2008 at 10:33 PM
What?! He's our secret weapon. With those tight jerseys he likes to sport he'll distract and cause the Mexicans to double over in laughter!
Posted by: Freddie Footballer | February 01, 2008 at 11:24 PM
Twellman can't score at an international level in a highly charged atmosphere anyway. I will be glad when we never have to hear his name again. Altidore should always get the start over him.
Posted by: Good | February 01, 2008 at 11:32 PM
thank god. i mean, aw thats a real shame.
altidore and bradley, and adu need ot start
Posted by: shaj | February 01, 2008 at 11:40 PM
In any event, Mastroeni is a good player. I hope he's not written off permanently.
Posted by: Freddy | February 02, 2008 at 12:04 AM
So we wont get to see Twellman go flying headfirst into the goal on another failed header?
Aw. :(
Posted by: Xiphosis | February 02, 2008 at 01:43 AM
I am heartbroken. Just HEARTBROKEN! How can we really evaluate those new kits without seeing them on Taylor "I shop at GapKids" Twellman?
Posted by: Joamiq | February 02, 2008 at 03:28 AM
Here we go....2-3 straight days of "Altidore is the Savior" commentary.
Posted by: Alex | February 02, 2008 at 04:51 AM
lol well played Joamiq
Posted by: Gary B | February 02, 2008 at 02:22 PM
