The New York Red Bulls broke a streak on Sunday that had lasted for exactly 11 years, 11 months, and ten days.

In highly unexpected fashion, a very shorthanded Red Bulls side defeated the New England Revolution, 2-0, earning the Red Bulls their first victory at the Revolution since June 29, 2002. The Red Bulls scored goals through veterans Eric Alexander and Peguy Luyindula, and goalkeeper Luis Robles made a number of crucial stops to earn the clean sheet.

The Red Bulls’ performance in Foxborough, Mass. earned them SBI MLS Team of the Week honors. The Red Bulls beat out the Seattle Sounders, Portland Timbers, and FC Dallas for this week’s honors.

With all due respect to Robles, NYRB weren’t even the best team of their game, much less the league, this week. They were very lucky to walk away with any points – just one of those nights where nearly everything goes right for one team and nearly everything goes wrong for the other. Even the free kick that resulted in their first goal is one very rarely ever given. Could NE have done better, sure, should they have, yes. But much like their opener against Houston which everyone thought showed the Dynamo were a dominant team and the Revs were hapless, a few inches would have turned this game on it’s head. Could have been a NE blowout.

SKC broke a fairly long win-less streak with a 2-0 defeat of Houston, all while being a man down nearly the entire game. The SKC CBs were 19 and 17 years old, and got a shut out… Surprised they werent mentioned in who NYRB beat out for it.
