After failing to earn the start in his side’s loss to Belgium, Algerian forward Islam Slimani made the most of his opportunity Sunday.

Slimani picked up a goal and an assist in Algeria’s 4-2 victory over South Korea, leading an Algerian attack that had its way with the opposition in the game’s first half.

The 26-year-old opened the scoring in the 26th minute with the first of his team’s three first half finishes. Slimani produced a spectacular individual effort after getting onto a long ball from midfielder Carl Medjani. Slimani slipped his way past two South Korean defenders and fired past goalkeeper Jung Sung-Ryong.

Slimani also had a role in Algeria’s third, assisting Abdelmoumene Djabou for what ended up being all Algeria would need to knock off the pesky opposition.

Slimani’s performance in Algeria’s first half onslaught was enough to earn him SBI World Cup Man of the Match, narrowly defeating teammate Djabou, who also had a goal and an assist, for today’s honors.

What did you think of Slimani’s performance? Who stood out to you in Algeria’s victory over South Korea?
