FC Dallas will be without one of their star performers for up to two and a half months.

The club said on Wednesday in a release that the Argentine midfielder Mauro Diaz would miss six to ten weeks with a knee injury suffered during FC Dallas’ 4-1 loss to D.C. United on April 26. Diaz is scheduled to undergo a procedure on his right knee next Tuesday.

The timetable is consistent with surgery for a torn meniscus. Reports last week stated Diaz had suffered a torn meniscus, though that report had him being out for the season.

Diaz has been one of, if not the leading players for FC Dallas through the first nine weeks of the season. Up until his injury, Diaz had started eight games and scored three goals and three assists as FC Dallas rose to third place in the Western Conference standings.

What do you think of this news? Disappointed to hear about the injury? Do you believe he can come back after the World Cup break? Think that FC Dallas can continue to play well without Diaz on the field?

Man, never good when one of the most creative players misses time. To a speedy recovery.

    NOOOOOOOOO!!!!

I’m not too worried about it…if the RBNY match was any indication, we’re not nearly as bad without him as the pundit class postulated. As long as Oscar can prevent us from having an ’013-style meltdown during the summer, Mauro will be fit and hopefully in form in the run-up to the playoffs.

It’s unfortunate, but Danny Garcia will be a capable backup. Tough injury times for FCD lately with Acosta out as well.
