It was a good week for U.S. Men’s National Team stars in MLS, and a good week for international midfielders as well.

Michael Bradley and Clint Dempsey turned in standout performances last weekend to lead their teams to important results, and earn their places in the SBI MLS Best XI for Week Five. Bradley’s virtuoso effort in midfield helped lead Toronto FC to a big win at Columbus while Dempsey’s hat trick helped Seattle pull off a stunning comeback against the Portland Timbers.

Most other weeks, Diego Chara’s efforts for Portland in that draw would have good enough for SBI MLS Player of the Week (which went to Dempsey). Chara’s two stunning goals and outstanding play in central midfield was key to the Timbers putting on a show on Saturday. Jose Mari also delivered a brace for his team, including the best goal in the league in Week Five.

Here is a rundown of all the players who made SBI MLS Best XI for Week Five:

    i don’t get how Ishizaki isn’t there

  2. Birgit Calhoun says:

Isn’t it a bit early for the best 11 when some of the team have played five games and other team have played only three?

  3. Birgit Calhoun says:

Sorry I have sticky keys. I meant to say teams.

  4. BK says:

Schuler is deserving, but Andrew Farrell is at least equally deserving and for him not to get a mention is surprising.

  5. louisz says:

Chara should have had best player of the week honors. Dempsey scored on a blown coverage, a penalty down the middle and a nice finish on a deflection cross. Seems to me Chara’s goals where more quality.

Love the Sounders and Yedlin, but he was turned inside-out by Nagbe throughout the match. Nagbe deserves an honorable mention more than Yedlin.

  7. Jack Del says:

    DeAndre Yedlin,

    Wtf. No.

Not even an honorable mention for Julio Cesar?

Nice to see someone recognizes Sinovic. He was a beast versus RSL. And man, if only that laser strike of his had found the net. Sooooo close.

I would have thrown in an HM for Jeff Parke this week. Very Beastly in the shutout.
