Liga MX Round 10: A Look Ahead

After the Mexican national team played out an entertaining draw against Nigeria on Wednesday evening, Liga MX returns this weekend with a full round of fixtures.

The highlight of Round 10 sees Club Tijuana host Chivas de Guadalajara in the Estadio Caliente. Xolos nearly ended their winless away streak last weekend against Veracruz, only to be denied by a late equalizer from Uruguayan forward Liber Quinones. The game also saw leading scorer Cristian Pellerano dismissed in the 80th minute for a second bookable offense, and he will now miss this weekend’s fixture.

Chivas go into the game on the back of an insipid 0-0 draw against Tigres UANL in Guadalajara, and have now not won any of their last three games in all competitions. Despite the dip in form, a win could see Los Rojiblancos return to a place in the top three, though a defeat would see them overtaken by their opponents and consequently them drop out of the top eight.

Elsewhere, Cruz Azul travel to Tigres, a side that—despite their lowly league position—have not lost in seven, conceding just two goals in process. Atlante could move off the foot of the relegation table with a win at home to the financially troubled Queretaro, and two of Mexico’s most storied teams face each other in Mexico City as Club America host Santos Laguna.
