FC Dallas bolstered their forward line considerably on Friday with the acquisition of Uruguayan forward David Texeira.

FCD announced the signing of the former Groningen striker after securing his services as a young Designated Player. His arrival comes soon after FC Dallas also picked up Colombian forward/midfielder Andres Escobar on loan from Dynamo Kiev.

“He’s a striker who finishes, a striker who works extremely hard off the ball and is going to complement what we have already with Escobar, Diaz, Castillo and Blas (Perez),”  FC Dallas Technical Director Fernando Clavijo said. “He’s a guy we have followed for a long time. He was probably one of the best players in the 2011 U-20 World Cup in Colombia and from there he went to the Netherlands right away.”

Texeira, who turns 23 next week, scored 14 goals in 65 matches with Groningen.

Here are some other stories from around MLS:

JOSEPH JOINS REVS FOR PRESEASON

Shalrie Joseph spent the best years of his career starring for the New England Revoluion, and after a two-year stint in the Western Conference, he appears ready to return to his old stomping grounds.

Joseph has joined the Revs for preseason, and is on trial after having the Seattle Sounders buy out his contract, sources have told SBI. Joseph joined the Sounders via trade from Chivas USA last year, and was due for a Designated Player payday in 2014, but the Sounders have bought out his contract, making him available to sign for a reasonable price with New England.

Joseph could help provide the midfield bite the Revs have been lacking since he left New England, though at 35 it remains to be seen if he can still be counted on to be a consistent starter.

Joseph isn’t the first familiar face in MLS to join the Revs for preseason. Former Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Daigo Kobayashi has also joined New England for preseason.

CHIVAS USA ADDING MOORE

Chivas USA may have a new owner in MLS, but that isn’t stopping the club from continuing to build a squad.

The Goats have completed the signing of English forward Luke Moore, Goal.com reported on Friday. Moore joins Chivas USA from Turkish club Elazigspor.

Moore joins a Chivas USA attack that has also added Adolfo Bautista and Mauro Rosales this offseason, though with leading scorer Erick Torres reportedly heading back to Chivas Guadalajara this summer, the Goats will need both Moore and Bautista to produce if the team is going to climb out of the Western Conference basement.

The ‘Fighting Garbers’ look to have a halfway decent squad this year, but the Western Conference is so stacked I’m not sure it will make much of a difference.

  2. steve says:

anything will be better than the past few years watching chivas usa games with under a thousand fans at the games……no matter what the reported numbers were there were more at my neighbors youth soccer game. please bring back la aztecs name it will create the same buzz as sounders timbers quakes etc….

    • Tk says:

No one cared about the name 30 years ago…it wasn’t a great NASL market…and the name hasn’t been used or kept up anywhere since.

Not all nostalgic names are the same.

    • gbaker says:

I heard that NASL has the ‘LA Aztecs’ name under lock and key…

    • Leo says:

1,000 +1 cuz i was there! got to see players like Henry and Donovan just 15 feet away from me for just $12 a game; yup, first row! i struck gold. hopefully prices are just as cheap this year. at galaxy games in the same stadium, in the same section, but in the last row, i paid $25 a game.

  3. Increase0 says:

Heeyyy, the Ukrainian PM just quit/voted out. Maybe we will get that Friendly after all.

    • JayAre says:

I thought the President was voted out and the Prime minister freed from jail.

      • Increase0 says:

Yulia Tymoshenko was the Ex-PM. She legitimately lost the last election. Not so much legitimately jailed.

But ya, Viktor Yanukovych got voted out by Parliament.
I thought this might be good soccer wise but apparently Kharkiv is pro-Russia so there might be protests there now.

Urggg got about 2 weeks to calm down.

  4. Vince says:

    Chivas MLS are looking decent!

  5. Darwin says:

So, I guess that FCD is letting Eric Hassli go, somehow….or is he on the injury list? They don’t mention him when naming off forwards.

    • Bobb says:

Hassli is still with the team but he’s terrible, totally overweight and lacking fitness, that’s why they don’t mention him. I doubt he plays much, especially since these FCD attacking players shouldn’t miss time at the World Cup.

  6. Bobb says:

Ives, every MLS loan deal has an option to buy, what if MLS buys Cubo Torres’ contract so he stays with Chivas USA? Is that a possibility?

  7. The Imperative Voice says:

Ideally they’d sign Joseph for the proverbial one day and retire him a Revolutionary today. If he has to play, it should be for peanuts and they shouldn’t be crowding out the future.
