adidas unveils Mexico’s red away World Cup jersey

Just when you thought it was a bit strange to see the Mexico Men’s national Team wearing the all-black jerseys they sported last year, get ready for an even more strange sight.

‘El Tri’ in all (well, mostly) red.

adidas unveiled Mexico’s away jersey for the World Cup and it’s a red shirt with some black lines. Red has always been part of Mexico’s uniform, but not in recent memory had Mexico donned so much red, which could take some getting used to for U.S. fans who have adopted red as the U.S. Men’s National team fan base’s unofficial color of choice.

It is unclear just when the new red Mexico jersey will be unveiled, but it could be on display on April 2, when Mexico faces the United States in Phoenix.

What do you think of the new uniform? Like it? Think Mexico should avoid wearing so much red? Praying adidas doesn’t come up with a green USA jersey next?

That doesn’t even seem to be the right red from their flag, seems way to dark although it could be the picture. Bit odd really, not a big fan

  2. Forrest says:

Looks like something Dracula would wear. Not a fan of the zig zag on the chest. Honestly, this jersey is quite hideous.

  3. automata says:

Carlos Marrón…maybe the ref will pull the ball away last second when Chicharito lines up for a PK.

  4. JunkFoodTaster says:

    Stupid

  5. Petaluman says:

    Subtle Charlie Brown influence?

  6. William the Terror says:

    That’s just butt ugly.

  7. AcidBurn says:

So did someone forget to pay the electric bill at Adidas HQ? Or is the color that awful that Adidas decided to unveil the jerseys in the dark?

  8. XYZ says:

I remember someone noted it looked like a Power Rangers uniform when the green one came out. Now in red, that will be further engrained in my mind.

  9. dcpohl says:

The US kit is from Nike. So Adidas wouldn’t be able to make a green US shirt anyway.

  10. SBI TroII says:

What’s up with all these countries having non traditional away uniform colors.
    Mexico – Red and black
Spain – Black and Lime Green
    Germany – Black and Red
Russia – White with a blue looking mountain top in the middle

And these are just from the last two days.

are the zigzags supposed to represent their performances?

  12. mike says:

Are you telling us so we can plan a ritual burning?

  13. JayAre says:

They set the bar really low for Nike

  14. Chris says:

I like it. A tribute to the country that got them to the world cup. De nada Mexico.

  15. ThatKidNandez says:

It’s official mexico are the power rangers

  16. EspinDOHla says:

So…when is Nike going to release the US jersey? There was that one all white jersey a while back. Hope they have something a bit more interesting in store.

    • Brett says:

I read it will be a reverse of the home in red with red shorts and some extra accents in white and blue, and the red will be the same as England’s red.

  17. Brett says:

I’m not loving the zigzag pattern, but that color red is pretty fresh with the black accents. Even the ugly Adidas kits are better than most of the Nike kits. Mexico has a way better crest, too. We need a crest redesign, and not the boring centennial crest. Something with the bald eagle symbol, maybe.

I wish we would change our uniform supplier. We only use Nike because they have the lowest overhead (sweat shops) and so give us the best deal. This is America, after all. Proud tradition of inequitable profit from forced and poorly compensated labor.

I’m just happy the Where’s Waldo, basketball practice, and sash kits are over. I think the last one I liked was the 2006 home kit, wihite with the red/blue stripe behind the badge. That was a clean look.

  18. Luis Casillas says:

I would love the USA to wear the Atlético Madrid kits and just change the badge!

  19. Herb says:

    fairly ugly

  20. George says:

Not really as ugly as everyone’s saying. The zig zag is kinda odd, kinda wish they kept with those cool thunderbolts. but paired with black shorts those kits could look pretty badass

  21. Gary Jones says:

Look it’s okay but not all that . 1 through 10
I give it a 8 . The green one is a 8.5 , both are good but not great. Lol HARLEMSTANDUP C.A. #1
