Aron Johannsson’s goal-scoring ways continued on Saturday and so too did AZ Alkmaar’s slide in the Eredivisie.

Three days after defeating SC Heerenveen on penalties in a KNVB Cup match in which Johannsson scored twice, AZ Alkmaar saw their winless run in league play extend to six games with a 5-1 defeat to the Super Frisians. Johannsson scored a goal late in the first half to make the scoreline 2-1 and give AZ some hope of a comeback, but Heerenveen responded by netting three consecutive goals to pick up an impressive road victory.

Johannsson’s goal – which came when he chested an aerial ball down and hit a potent half-volley with his right foot after being allowed space – raises his season total in league play to 11. He has 18 across all competitions.

Here is the goal:

The Iceman is on a tear. This is great to see. I hope he and Jozy can work on their chemistry and really get things going together with the national team.

  2. Boyd says:

Call me when he scores in a real league.

    • Benjamin C. says:

As opposed to a virtual reality/computerized league? Do they have to use the technology from ‘Virtuosity’ that made Russell Crowe’s character ‘real’ so that Johannsson can play for the National Team?

    • Junior says:

Even if he did score in a “real league’, You’re next complaint would be-
“Call me when he scores for USA”
“Call me when he scores in the world cup”
“call me when he scores of a front flip”

    • Horsewhistle says:

      What’s your number?

  3. Joe+G says:

Actually, AZ was down 3-1 at the break and Heerenveen only scored 2 in the 2nd half (though they could have netted more). The 3rd goal was a really horrible backpass to the GK in traffic.

  4. The Imperative Voice says:

There’s this good striker at Sunderland they should take a look at.

  5. Excellency says:

Hopefully the USMNT will use him on left wing / right wing. He wants a little space and he will not get that at the wc at the traditional cf position. He was shit down against Austria playing in the centre for us.
