On a night with no less than 36 goals scored in eight UEFA Champions League matches, it was Manchester United’s display at the Bay Arena that stole the headlines.

Despite missing a handful of starters including Robin Van Persie, Man United put in an impressive performance with a 5-0 rout of Bayer Leverkusen. No player stood out more for Man United than Wayne Rooney, who had a hand in four of the five goals and finished the match with two assists.

With the win, David Moyes’ side continue their 11-match unbeaten run and keep a three-point gap with Shakhtar Donetsk in Group A.

Real Madrid found out that they’re just as strong of a team without Cristiano Ronaldo as they are with him in the Champions League.

Carlo Ancelotti’s plans were thrown into disarray in the 26th minute after Madrid center back Sergio Ramos was sent off for a professional foul, forcing Los Blancos down to 10 men. Despite the disadvantage, Gareth Bale scored a terrific free kick and Madrid added three more goals in the second half to defeat Galatasaray, 4-1.

With the win, Madrid secure control of Group B, with Italian side Juventus moving into second place with a huge 3-1 victory at home against FC Copenhagen.

Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal scored a hat-trick to become just the third ever Juve player to do so in a Champions League match. With the win, Juve needs just one point in their final match against Galatasaray in two weeks.

Elsewhere in Europe, Bayern Munich its their record 10th-straight Champions League match on the frozen Khimki Arena pitch, defeating CSKA Moscow, 3-1. Manchester City overcame Viktoria Plzen, 4-2, and a late goal from Edinson Cavani gave Paris Saint-Germain a 2-1 victory at home against Olympiakos.

Here’s a full rundown of Wednesday’s results:

GROUP C
