For the fourth time in five games, Chivas USA played with a disadvantage due to a red card.

Against the Colorado Rapids on Sunday evening, two players on Chivas USA saw red. In a match that saw three total dismissals, Chivas USA tied the Colorado Rapids, 1-1, at the StubHub Center in a game that finished ten vs. nine.

It only took five minutes for the hosts to get on the board as Carlos Alvarez sent a curling shot past Rapids goalkeeper Clint Irwin, taking advantage of a turnover from Rapids defender German Mera. In the 28th minute, after Chivas USA were penalized for a handball in the box, goalkeeper Dan Kennedy made a terrific save on Deshorn Brown’s penalty kick to keep his side in the lead.

But Chivas USA’s evening began to go downhill in the 34th minute. Midfielder Gabriel Farfan, charging towards Rapids defender Shane O’Neill, stamped down on the homegrown player’s leg, earning a straight red card and putting his side down a man for the better part of 56 minutes.

Four minutes after the halftime break, the Rapids didn’t do themselves many favors when midfielder Tony Cascio was shown a second yellow card and subsequent red card for a high boot, putting the two teams level at ten men each. However, even this didn’t last long, as Chivas USA forward Tristan Bowen was awarded a straight red dismissal for allegedly spitting on Rapids defender Chris Klute after the two were challenging for a ball on the sideline.

Making his first appearance for the Rapids after a long injury layoff, Martin Rivero latched onto a cross from Klute in the 80th minute and sent a header into the net that wrong-footed Kennedy, leveling the scoreline while the visitors pressed for a winner.

Despite the man advantage, Chivas USA held on strong and kept the Rapids off the board through the final whistle.

When is FIFA going to lift Chivas empty stadium ban.

  3. ELAC says:

I think we got our tarps repossessed because they didn’t even put them up for the game.

  4. Jeff says:

I think the removing of the tarps is maybe a psychological ploy. The great expanse of nothingness is bound to make the opposing team think of the total futility of it all , I mean they must already be inclined to belive that since they are playing Chivas :) I say this as a Chivas fan .. its all i got

Yeah. Feel for all the Chivas fans. Those 6-8k are true fans though to keep coming and put up with all the craziness. Kudos to those fans. Glad they got Boca and wish them the best.

Chivas sucks, wish Dan Kennedy was on a better team

Spitting on an opponent? Stay classy, Tristan Bowen.
