FC Dallas were headed for their 12th straight match without a win, but three goals inside of the final 20 minutes helped the club pull off a stunning comeback against Chivas USA.
The Hoops rallied to pick up a 3-1 victory over Chivas USA on Wednesday night at StubHub Center thanks to goals from Blas Perez, David Ferreira and Ramon Nunez. Perez scored the equalizer in the 71st minute to negate Bryan de la Fuente’s opener, and Ferreira and Nunez netted despite FC Dallas being down a man after Jackson was sent off with his second yellow card nine minutes before the final whistle.
The win was FC Dallas’ first since June 12 and improved the club to 9-7-9. Chivas USA, meanwhile, dropped to 4-14-6 with the loss and remained in last place in the Western Conference.
The Goats took a 1-0 lead into halftime courtesy of a strike from de la Fuente, a former Chivas USA Academy player who rejoined the club’s first team on Tuesday. De La Fuente found the back of the net two minutes before the intermission, finishing off a feed from Marco Delgado to stun the visitors.
That goal looked like it would stand as the winner until Perez pulled the Hoops level. Perez fired a shot from long range at goal, and it took a deflection that surprised Chivas USA goalkeeper Dan Kennedy before rolling into the back of the net.
While the momentum seemed to be in FC Dallas’ favor, they lost some of it when Jackson was ejected from the match in the 81st minute. Still, FC Dallas pushed on for a late winner and they found it four minutes from the end of regulation.
Ferreira chipped in the winner from a tight angle after receiving a nifty pass from Perez that allowed the FC Dallas midfielder to race in on goal. But FC Dallas was not done yet, as Nunez scored a wicked bender in the 90th minute to assure that the Hoops would come out victorious.
