I really wish they didn’t hold this tournament, just gives the trolls more ammo

life gives the trolls more ammo. It’s just what they do, i wouldn’t be too upset over them

    • Gnarls says:

Who cares what the trolls think? This tournament is great for Florida and great for the lower division teams in the state. Now, if they could only RENAME the tournament…

    • fischy says:

I don’t even understand this line of thinking. All professional teams try to schedule some competitive matches for their preseason training. Why should this be ammo for trolls? Because the crowds will be smaller than for baseball’s Spring Training? That’s the point of the tournament — to generate some local interest, and maybe some visitors from out of state. The crowds will be a lot bigger than they’d be for random training matches.

My guess is this will become an event on the Florida sports calendar, in much the way Spring Training has, but it will take time.

They dont have a preseason tourney sponsored by Disney in any league in the world…it is not how the rest of the world plays soccer.

        How did I do ?

  2. fischy says:

I doubt that I’ll be headed to Florida for this, but it’s kinda cool to see the schedule with my old-time favorite franchise from NASL days (the Rowdies) taking on my current favorite team ever, DC United.

No one’s made a Mickey Mouse Tournament joke yet? Disappointing.

  4. Daniel says:

This is actually a pretty good tournament and I know the locals (myself included) are happy to see it. The pitches @ Disney are pretty nice. Talk all the Mickey Mouse smack you want to, but Disney puts out a quality product far as their venues go and its a nice place to watch some games.

PS: AS Roma will be training @ Disney the week of Christmas with their A team and are playing vs. Orlando City on 1/2/2013 at Rollins College (just north of Orlando).

Why are SKC and DCU in the same group? They finished 1&2 in the East last season. Seems like the groups aren’t very well balanced.

Just so happens I’ll be in Orlando the final weekend. And I’m a Crew fan. If the wifey will let me and the kids slip away for a few hours, I might try to catch their last game – hopefully it is the 1st place game vs. DC.

I like this concept for preseason. With this, the one in AZ and I believe one in Charleston that all seem to be becoming annual events I think fans will embrace and start making vacation plans around them. I also like that it’s just not MLS teams. Good for the sport to elevate and include lower tier teams and expecially if they are local and their fans show up.

I hope Tampon Bay gets their gold n green butts kicked.
