Soccer Wednesday: Your Running Commentary

Wednesday’s soccer on broadcast TV got off to a pretty entertaining start with the U.S.-Russia 2-2 draw on ESPN2. But that’s just the opener on a Wednesday full of international friendlies on various networks throughout the day.

In Europe, the Czech Republic is facing Slovakia in a battle of bordering nations. The Netherlands vs. Germany and Sweden vs. England are two other European friendlies coming up later in the day.

There’s a history of huge matches between Sweden and England that has stoked what is a pretty solid and evenly-matched rivalry. The two sides met a year ago in London with England taking a 1-0 victory and played a wild, offense-dominated group stage match in Euro 2012 this past June which England won 3-2. Today’s match is in Stockholm.

Some interesting Western Hemisphere matches take place this evening, including Venezuela-Nigeria and Panama-Spain.

Here is a rundown of some matches on TV being shown on Wednesday:

2 p.m. РGolTV РSaudia Arabia vs. Argentina

2:30 p.m. – ESPN2/ESPN3/ESPN Deportes – The Netherlands vs. Germany

2:30 p.m. – GolTV – Sweden vs. England

4:30 p.m. – beIN Sport – Panama vs. Spain

6:30 p.m. – DirecTV – Honduras vs. Peru

8:05 p.m. – ESPN3/ESPN Deportes – Venezuela vs. Nigeria

If you will be watching any of the action, please feel free to share any thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below. Enjoy the games.

Falcao v. Neymar! Colombia v. Brazil! Falcao is the best pure center forward in the world now, and there’s talk of him going to big clubs. Neymar is rumored to go to Madrid too. So they will duke it out tonight! Looking forward to a Colombia surprise win (watching Falcao and Teo). On the Brazilian side, I’m keeping an eye on Oscar and Neymar (if he can produce in a big game).

  2. SteveE says:

Really annoyed Sweden vs England isn’t on ESPN. I had the US game streaming on my phone earlier and now have to rely on only goal.com.

  3. Francois says:

Valbuena with an absolute golazo minutes after Al Sharraary (SP) puts Italy ahead of France.

  4. Francois says:

    ZLATAN! OH MY WORD!

  5. A says:

Greatest goal I’ve ever seen live.

GOTY easily and probably GOTDecade. Once in a generation goal.

    • SteveE says:

I don’t know how he doesn’t have GOTY and to think I thought he was a contender with his sideways volley in the Euros.

      • A says:

That side volley was pretty nasty, but Messi beating 4 Brazilians and unleashing that long rocket, game winner on the run into the upper 90 was pretty nasty.

  6. Philly Union Rule says:

BTW, the Czechs beat the Slovaks 3-0. Great job in the mention of Czech Republic in the post Ives.
