MLS Playoffs: Dynamo vs. Sporting KC (Your Running Commentary)

After a regular season that saw the Houston Dynamo fail to lose a single game at their new home at BBVA Compass Stadium, Dominic Kinnear and company will look to continue that pattern as they host their first ever playoff game there today, taking on the Eastern Conference-winning Sporting Kansas City. (3:30 PM, NBC)

Much like last year, Houston goes into the playoffs under the radar, hoping to duplicate last year’s success and making a surprise run to the MLS Cup. After knocking out the Chicago Fire at Toyota Park last week, Houston takes on a much more formidable foe in the form of Sporting Kansas City.

Houston will feature a starting lineup identical to Wednesday’s match against Chicago, with forward Will Bruin looking to continue his strong start to the playoffs, after netting a brace against the Fire.

Meanwhile, Sporting Kansas City will send out their usual starting lineup, with the strong centerback duo of Aurelien Collin and Matt Besler looking to keep Bruin and company out of the net.

In three matchups this season, Houston had the only win, defeating Sporting Kansas City at home 2-1 in July. The other two matchups contained a scoreless draw, along with a 1-1 draw in their final match during the regular season in September.

I really hope NBS stops putting the team names and score on the top portion of the screen. ESPN used to do that and they stopped right before the 2010 WC. That is one thing that BeIn does well. They show most of the screen, and no ticker either.

I am not the only one the feels strong about this right?

    • Edwin in LA says:

I don’t see what the big deal is with having the score on top or bottom as long as it is small and on the edge….the camera work keeps everything on frame so it shouldn’t matter much…ESPN will always show ticker

  2. Edwin in LA says:

Who scores first? I think Houston but I hope KC win….

  3. tomG says:

    absolutely sick strike.

  4. Pat says:

Anybody have a link for a stream?

  5. George will says:

I didn’t know Houston shares their stadium with the Texans. Nice gridiron!

  6. Barry W says:

SKC’s offense has been piss poor

  7. jimmy_the_greek says:

Nice, high quality grass field. Hahahahahaha. Zzzzzz. Nice win KC. Way to pull that one out.

  8. fischy says:

So, this is good news for DC United (or, I suppose, NYRB, but I choose to fervently hope and believe United will emerge victorious). LA might dump SJE. THen DCU will have the inside track to host the MLS Cup final. RFK will rock.

    • TomG says:

I don’t think having to play Houston in the East can ever be considered good news. Dom knows how to win the playoffs.

  9. Tim F. says:

Some Houston fans wanted to sit Moffat but I bet they are glad now that didn’t happen.

Houston played very well against SKC.

  10. Nats says:

That was one ugly game of kickball. Embarrassing for MLS.

  11. el paso tx wants NASL says:

Only if Century link belong to sounders and seahawks were second in the owners pocket but only one can dream. Also, so dynamo played right after the texans game and still got a good crowd in the SUN without a roof cover like texans have, not bad. What was the attendace 19000?oh and by the way so weird that san jose or dc might end up hosting the cup with weird stadium situations. Dc needs to add stands like crew stadium to both endslike it was done for the USA game vs Jamaica and make them super cheap. Another question, giants stadium is pack like always but red bull couldn’t host……

    • Edwin in LA says:

Giants stadium is in East Rutherford, closer to NY and Manhattan but Red Bull Arena had issues with power

  12. Rex says:

Hack, dive, cry- WE ARE SKC!
