    I think you’ve both hit on the problem of building a fanbase by reaching out to ex-pats. Ex-pats already have “their team” that they love and everything else is second or lower on the list. I think this is why MLS went after the family market for so many years. I won’t cite the name out of fear of spawning an off-topic debate but I know one guy who made a living around soccer (but not in soccer) who said their success compared to others in the same field was that they learned really quickly that the expat community would never be their base as they already had their allegiances firmly set and all others were inferior in their eyes.

    At the end of their career. Most cosmopolitan rich people probably would like to live in NY or LA at some point. Good luck getting Ronaldo to Columbus or Salt Lake in a few years though.
