College Soccer Rewind: Central Florida knocks out SMU, Northwestern edges Ohio State, and more

A Steven Lamberta goal in the 68th minute was enough for a stingy Central Florida defense to ride to a 1-0 victory against No. 22 SMU on Sunday.

The Knights posted their fourth shutout in five matches to halt the Mustangs, who saw their nine-match unbeaten streak snapped. Sophomore goalkeeper Sebastian Evers made five saves for the shutout.

In other Sunday college action, SBI No. 16 Northwestern edged Ohio State, 1-0. Sophomore midfielder Eric Weberman struck a 40-yard free kick that beat the Ohio State goalkeeper with the help of some windy conditions, to help the Wildcats post their third win in four matches.

New Mexico rebounded from their second straight loss to Air Force by beating Denver, 2-0, on Sunday. James Rodgers and Devin Sandoval provided the scoring for the Lobos.
