This Weekend’s Soccer on TV

Getafe have become giant killers in Spain, and after already making one of the country's two superpowers an early victim in 2012, they have their sights set on the other.

Barcelona, playing without the injured Andres Iniesta and Jordi Alba, will aim to avoid suffering the same fate as Real Madrid did a few weeks ago when squaring off against the Spanish underdog Saturday. Losing at Getafe is nothing new for Barcelona, which fell to them 1-0 in one of two meetings last year.

Elsewhere around the world, Queens Park Rangers and Chelsea clash in West London with the side plot of the personal feud between John Terry and Anton Ferdinand lingering over the matchup; Stoke City's U.S. internationals Geoff Cameron and Maurice Edu get a crack at Premier League champions Manchester City; and Bayern Munich looks to continue its perfect start to the Bundesliga campaign against a Mainz 05 side that is winless after the first two matches of the season. Some of the biggest names in South America square off against each other as well, as the Velez Sarsfield-River Plate clash in Argentina highlights Sunday evening's slate.

In MLS, playoff implications are at stake across the league landscape, as the Kansas City-Houston, Chicago-Montreal, Dallas-Vancouver and New York-Columbus games all carry a great deal of significance for teams in the postseason hunt. The most anticipated MLS match of the weekend, though, takes place in Portland, where the Timbers and Seattle Sounders look to settle the Cascadia Cup on NBC's flagship network.

  1. Illmatic74 says:

I guess there is no coincidence that Manchester United and Arsenal are on Fox Soccer Plus during the free weekend. Neither one will probably be on Fox Soccer Plus again.

  2. Steve C says:

MLS on the “big boy” channel this weekend. Competing against Alabama/Arkansas (CBS) … good luck.

  3. john.q says:

any chance Clint starts or subs in this weekend?

  4. TomG says:

Maybe a sub. He looked out of form against Jamaica and hasn’t had much time to impress AVB in training.

  5. Chupacabra says:

Tonight’s Galaxy/Rapids match will not be on Direct Kick. It’s only on the obscure Univision Deportes network that’s not even an available option from most cable and satellite providers or on Altitude if you live in the Colorado broadcast market. MLS should not have signed an exclusive broadcast agreement for a channel nobody can watch.

  6. Michael F. SBI Mafia Original says:

Being Liverpool: Sunday 6PM on Fox Soccer Channel. Hate the team. Love the behind the scenes concept. Can’t wait.

  7. beachbum says:

wtf??? Can I get it on Altitude via the sports package on Directv? Man…….

  8. This is gonna be a very interesting weekend. My wife will not be pleased ;)

  9. Dillon says:

It is terrible how soccer is getting hard to watch on TV thanks to all these new money grabbing channels that no one gets like Fox Soccer Plus and BEIN.

  10. beachbum says:

    and Univision Deportes

  11. FAMILYGUYTHESIMPSONS says:

    Hat trick for Clint tomorrow?

  12. Tim F. says:

    Top ten list?

  13. Chupacabra says:

Not live. Only the delayed rebroadcasts unless you’re in the Colorado viewing area.

  14. Chupacabra says:

    Only in your bed puddle.

  15. beachbum says:

    no, I can’t :(

  16. beachbum says:

    Thanks Chupacabra :)

What planet are most of you on???

  23. Soccer is the best sport on this planet. It is exciting to view and playing it is so great. If you are a new comer to this particular sport, mastering soccer terms is the greatest way to certainly enjoy and appreciate the game far more. As you grow accustomed to the terms, you will soon be hooked much more with the game and ride the emotions experienced by million of its supporters.

  24. ... says:

MLS signed the agreement with Galavision. Then the Univision family launched Univision Deportes in mid-season. It’s starting to roll out, I just got it about a week ago on Cablevision. But games that MLS thought would be on Galavision, but are actually on UDN, are available on MLS live and Direct Kick. A little late for last night’s game, but for future reference.

  25. Arek Mucha says:

Not bad. I need to get some popcorn and pizza ready.
