Camilo had the goal in his sights, and three points in the grasp of the Vancouver Whitecaps, but rather than seal a sorely-needed victory with a clutch last-minute winner, the Brazilian striker sent a great scoring chance just inches wide of the far post.

The final whistle blew just seconds later, bringing an end to a testy clash of Cascadia rivals, with the Seattle Sounders and Whitecaps settling for a scoreless draw at BC Place on Saturday night.

The draw helped the Sounders clinch a playoff spot, while the point helped the Whitecaps maintain their two-point lead on FC Dallas for the final playoff spot in the West (FC Dallas tied San Jose on Saturday night). The tie did drop Seattle to fourth place in the

Seattle's Michael Gspurning and Vancouver's Brad Knighton recorded three saves apiece to earn their respective shutouts.

The draw was a costly one for Vancouver, which lost standout rookie forward Darren Mattocks to a hamstring injury late in the first half after a challenge from Seattle defender Jeff Parke. Mattocks ran at Parke and appeared to turn the corner on him just outside of the penalty area before Parke slowed him down with a hand on his chest, which led to Mattock tumbling to the ground. The Whitecaps appealed for a penalty, but none was given.

Parke nearly scored a winner for Seattle in the 79th minute, but he saw his volley off a corner kick cleared off the line by Lee Young Pyo.

The Whitecaps best chance came at the very end, with Kenny Miller setting up a clear look for Camilo with a clever header of a cross. Camilo powered a shot past Gspurning, but it skipped just inches wide of the far post.
