To say Sporting Kansas City had a good week doesn't do justice to what a special week it was for the fans of the team formerly known as the Kansas City Wizards.
First, Sporting KC won the club's first trophy in eight years with a dramatic penalty shootout victory in the U.S. Open Cup Final, then the team shook off the celebratory hangover in time to beat Eastern Conference rival D.C. United at home to jump into first place in the East.
Sporting KC's dream week made them the easy choice for SBI MLS Team of the Week. They beat out the LA Galaxy, Chicago Fire and New York Red Bulls for the honors this week.
