It is official. An American has secured a move to a Premiership club on deadline day, but it might not be who you would orginally think of.
U.S. Under-20 men's national team goalkeeper Cody Cropper has signed with Premiership club Southampton, Cropper's agent confirmed to SBI on Friday. The 19-year-old Cropper had most recently been with Ipswich Town in England's second tier, but he was surprisingly released earlier this year.
Cropper is unlikely to see much playing time as Kelvin Davis is the solidified starter for the Saints, but the young American could compete with 20-year-old Argentine Paulo Gazzaniga for the primary back-up spot.
What do you think of Cropper signing with Southampton? Expecting him to become an eventual starter there?

Would be awesome to see him start!! Fellow MN GK here!!
I worked at Southampton this summer. Cropper was on trial for a month or so and was the starting keeper for the U21 team during that time. He’ll be the third choice keeper at Southampton – it’s likely he won’t be training with the first team for at least another year.
Awesome news for Cody. Love to see our unattached guys sign somewhere and get a paycheck. All the better when they will get to train week in and week out with a Premier league side!
very nice
i’ve never heard of em tho.
Sucks that Southampton are very likely to be relegated but solid news for him. He’ll learn a lot
how good is this kid? Can he compare to Sean Johnson or Hamid or McMath or Meara?
Even still — and even if Southampton gets relegated — this is a big move for the guy.
Well, in the USA youth set-up. Cropper was ahead of all those guys until about a year ago.
Gonna be a good ride Mr Cropper………Welcome to Southampton…..the pride of the South Coast
Relegated…who us, nah…….it’ll never happen
We have four real tough games at the start of the season….but we will be just fine, don’t you worry!
Grrrrr..Good ole South coast team….25 years in the top league & now in the top ten richest teams in the UK
Southampton? Right down the Crapper
