FC Barcelona dominated play but had no goals to show for it after a scoreless first half against Real Madrid, but they broke through in the second half with three straight goals to erase a Cristiano Ronaldo opener and take control of the Spanish Super Cup series.

Goals from Pedro, Lionel Messi and Xavi helped Barcelona jump out to a 3-1 lead before Angel DiMaria pounced on a Victor Valdes blunder to give Real Madrid a valuable goal in a 3-2 Barcelona first-leg victory at Camp Nou on Thursday.

Ronaldo gave Real Madrid the 1-0 lead off a powerful header, but Pedro equalized just one minute later on a play that replays showed was offside.

Andres Iniesta stole the show the rest of the match, drawing a penalty that Messi converted before picking out a perfect pass to set up Xavi's goal.

Barcelona nearly made it 4-1 but Iker Casillas came through with a clutch save on Lionel Messi, which came just before DiMaria's goal. Valdes took his time playing the ball with his feet in the penalty area when DiMaria stripped him and made the score 3-2.

Now Barcelona will travel to Madrid for the return leg on Wednesday with a goal advantage.

What did you think of Thursday's match? Think Iniesta deserves consideration in the "Best Player in the World" conversation?

Go Madrid, just one goal and that´s it.

  2. somedude says:

    Valdes, lol

  3. Kozo says:

I believe Iniesta is currently the best player at Barca. Thanks to the coach who thinks it wise to keep the barca trinity of Iniesta, Xavi and Messi. Thats the barca engine. But we need a goal keeper seriously. Barca has the worst goal keeper in the world.

  4. Kozo says:

Lol indeed. Thats the worst goalkeeper in the world. The only thing barca needs is a goal keeper. He only survives because he’s got a good midfield that always cushions the defence. What nonsense was that?

  5. bryan says:

that dive maria goal was HUGE. 2 away goals, only down one goal overall. i think madrid can pull off the win! and i hope they do!

and yes, 1st goal was offside, but madrid were lucky a valencia goal was called offside last sunday.
