Valencia tops Dynamo in friendly

Valencia's stop in the United States has proven quite successful.

More than a week after defeating the Portland Timbers, the Spanish club beat the Houston Dynamo, 2-1, in a friendly on Thursday night. Valencia rode two early goals from forward Aritz Aduriz to victory against a mostly first-choice Dynamo team in front of a soldout crowd of 22,039 at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Aduriz, who scored the lone goal in Valencia's 1-0 win over Portland, gave the visitors an early lead when he found the back of the net in the second minute. Houston equalized in the 14th minute through Calen Carr, but the celebration was shortlived as Aduriz knocked in the winner three minutes later.

What do you think of the Dynamo losing to Valencia? Impressed by Aduriz?

Having been at the game, the Dynamo put in a great effort and made for exciting football in the first half.

The second half, however, saw a plethora of subs which made it much less than a “mostly first-choice team” and also made for a frustrating finish as Weaver and Kandji constantly could not connect in the final third.

All in all, it was far more impressive to watch than the Bolton 4-0 drubbing last year, but it’s more telling that Kinnear trotted out a better lineup for this than the Open Cup earlier this week. As a Dynamo fanatic, I think that’s a bit disgraceful.

Placing this game at the end of European season and before the Euros was a poor choice. The effort looked very much like the exhibition it was.

It’s going to be disappointing if video of Carr’s goal doesn’t make it online, that was a ROCKET.

That was a badass goal. Carr has really stepped it up this season in general.

It was a fun game to watch live, but both sides were pretty sloppy relative to their regular form.

The most exciting (frustrating?) part was that the Dynamo actually created more chances than Valencia, even if they were squandered.

Still want to slap Kandji for taking a stupid shot instead of slotting Weaver in on goal for a simple tap in.
