As if Toronto FC's season was not already bad enough, in comes word that three of their players have been arrested for public intoxication.
According to the Toronto Sun, Toronto FC players Luis Silva, Nick Soolsma and Miguel Aceval were jailed outside of a nightclub in Houston on Sunday night. The trio were taken into custody after having a verbal altercation with police officers, who were summoned to Club Escobar to break up a fight at the club. According to the report, one of the players allegedly tried to run away from the officers.
Toronto FC, which has the worst record in MLS this season, is in Houston gearing up for Wednesday's match against the Houston Dynamo.
New coach, same lame old team. TFC fans have to be looking to 2013 (or even 2014) by now.
TFC cannot even beat the Houston PD. News out of Houston is that the police Dept had their “B team” out on the streets too.
If you thought it could get any worse, you were right. Toronto fans really come out to support the team, but all the club does is let them down. If they made a list of most miserable MLS fans/clubs, TFC would be a sure #1.

Pretty much sums up the season for Toronto, worst record in the league, again, record for consecutive losses to start a season as well. Even worse some of the new Canadian clubs have a better chance of making the playoffs like Vancouver.

We can’t do this until the lower divisions are stable, although progress has been made , maybe MLS can find another way to penalize clubs finishing at the bottom of the table.
My thoughts exactly. Maybe they thought they’d find 3 points at the bottom of a bottle.
Of course the irony would be that TFC, for all its struggles, is well-attended by long-suffering fans who probably make the team financials look reasonable. Whereas Dallas, the team that just left town, is more competitive but attended by many Southern Oklahomans convincingly disguised as empty seats.

Penalize? The league rewards teams that finish low…The idiocy of the North American system.
If my knowledge of sports movies is correct, this kind of incident will end up being a catalyst to bring a team of misfits together and spurn them on to victory

You might make a competitive point by relegating lousy TFC but as a practical matter you’d be dumping a financially solid franchise into the minors, elevating a minor league team with modest resources and attendance, and retaining teams like Dallas and Columbus.
IMO MLS has most if not all of the worthwhile soccer cities in US and Canada, plus some dross. The solution is not to mess with that and solvency by relegation or expansion, it’s arguably to contract and consolidate.
What are people imagining? That TFC fans stay loyal all the way down? That SA or PR comes in and doubles or triples their attendance, multiplies their salary burden, and somehow turns out better on a financially sustainable, overall basis than what we already have? People realize leagues like the EPL already pay parachute payments as it is?

This exactly is why it will never happen. I dont see why people keep bringin pro/rel up. It is not happening. European leagues are trying to find ways to get rid of it because it is a bad business model that is failing all over the place.
If Carlos Ruiz had a Bugatti when he was in MLS he’d have done the same.

hate to beat a dead horse on promotion/relegation but: 20 teams, 10 in MLS1. 10 in MLS2. single table (18 games. play each other twice). apertura and clausura style. top 2 MLS2 teams go up after every short season. 3rd place MLS2 team vs 8th place MLS1… that’s my perfect world.
These players were probably ok with sitting in the cell because they’re professional bench-warmers.

At least one of them ought to be on the pitch for TFC being that one of them reportedly ran from the police. That is showing more hustle than at least half the TFC starting 11. Props to him.

Hmmm, interesting. I think I like the idea of dividing MLS in half better than I like the idea of two short seasons. The trouble with a short season is maybe the same problem with lack of relegation–it makes it easy to just give up on a season.
My concern would be that most North American fans would see MLS two as “the minor leagues” and just stop following. I gotta believe a lot of teams are barely making it as it is.
