Survival Sunday has arrived.
We will find out today which team will lift the English Premier League trophy, which EPL teams will play in the UEFA Champions League next year, as well as which teams won't be in the Premier League next season as ten league matches kick off to determine the winners and losers.
Manchester City has their fate in their hands. A win against Queens Park Rangers would give City the championship, while a draw or loss could open the door for Manchester United to win a record 20th league title.
Bolton will be rooting for City to win because a QPR loss and Bolton win today would help the Trotters secure a place in the Premier League for next season.
Arsenal is holding onto third place in the Premier League, but anything short of a win today could open the door for Tottenham or Newcastle to leapfrog the Gunners into third place.
The English Premier League isn't the only game in town today. In Italy, Lazio and Inter Milan square off with a place in the UEFA Champions League on the line. A Lazio win puts the Roman club into the Champions League next season while Inter can jump into fourth place with a win and Napoli tie or loss.
In Mexico, Santos Laguna will look to book their place in the Mexican Clausura Playoff Final with a win today against Club America. Herculez Gomez and the Guerreros can secure a rematch of the CONCACAF Champions League final against Monterrey with a victory today.

COYW!!
Come on you Spurs!
Come on Bolton!
Since Deuce is not in the Fulham lineup and I don’t have Fox Soccer +, will be flipping stations to checkout today’s action. Hoping SBI Nation can post updates on the Bolton match.
Cheers
Goal spurs! 2′ minute!
Since Dempsey is not playing, I don’t fee so bad that I’m visiting my son’s family this weekend and they don’t have any soccer channels.
In any case Come om Fulham!!
+1. eager to see a stream link and/or updates on Bolton match.
Horror blunder by the West Brom keeper who comes out to collect the ball and can’t grab it as Benayoun out runs the WBA backline and beats the keeper to pounce. That was perhaps the EPL goalie mishap of the season.
+2 firstrow not working.
WBA counter shreds the Arsenal D, and we’re tied 1-1. Offsides… very likely, though can’t tell for sure with the replays I’ve seen.
WTF!! Bolton robbed!
About as bad as Ream & Co. could start giving up a goal in the first 15… going to have to really chase after it now.
WTF. WBA up 2-1. Sick floated ball, and the WBA striker beats both centerbacks to set up a clinical finish.
As a neutral, last week’s Arsenal match and this week’s are incredibly entertaining.
I have no idea how SWP escaped at least a yellow card for that. It was awesome, but so illegal.
In case you didn’t see it, a ball was coming to Yaya Toure at the top of the box and SWP jumped and laid out completely horizontal to punch the ball away lol.
BOLTON!!!!!!!!
So incredible.
Yaya Toure sprains his hamstring, can barely move, but tells Mancini he’ll fight through it. Hobbles around the pitch doing nothing for 10 minutes, pushes through and gets in a dangerous position to toe poke a gorgeous ball through to Zabeleta who blasts one home for his first goal of the season and the potential season winner.
Yaya Toure is so bad*ss. He can barely walk and he’s refusing to come off.
x2 baby!!
Bolton!
COME ON YOU WHITES!! Please hold on for 45 more minutes Bolton!!!
!!!
Just saw Stoke’s goal. How in the hell did that count?!?! You can just headbutt the keeper?!
Crazy goals in the Stoke/Bolton game.
Lescott with the defensive mistake of the season. Wow he will be the most hated man in half of Manchester and the rest of England if that is the end of things.
Wow, just wow what a terrible error.
That will be the end of Joey Barton’s career in the EPL. That needs to be a lifetime ban.
Throws an elbow into Tevez’ face off the ball, gets red carded. And then after screaming at the official walks up behind Aguero and just knees him in the back and then tries to start a brawl with other City players.
Disgraceful piece of garbage.
Barton is an A-hole. I so hope QPR goes down.
This game is awesome. Awesome.
how can any PL manager trust him now? I think teams will look at this and say this guy’s too much of a head case and not worth the risk
Joey Barton is a moronic thug.
Only Balotelli can save City now!
Bring him to MLS! I hear Red Bulls are looking for another (Headcase) DP…..
Holy crap!
EEEEEEEEEFFFFFFFFFFFF
Omg this game is the BEST
And that’s the game. Epic choke.
Congratulations Manchester United.
ream is killing it right now
much tougher for city now. (to state the obvious)
Didn’t everyone have, in the back of their minds, the sense that City would find a way to screw up a sure thing?
Announcer has been singing Ream’s praises all game…much more than 90% of US Nats fans do, by the way. “There’s that man again”…”Tim Ream again…this kid’s a good prospect to me.”
Btw if, IF this result holds for QPR can’t y’all see media-happy Barton taking all the credit for the win with his antics? “my red spurred my team on to the win” or “I knew I had to do something to fire my team up. And it worked” etc
Newcastle don’t deserve to win today, but it’s still been a season far beyond anyone’s expectations. Doesn’t make this game against Everton any easier to watch.
No way QPR keeps City out right now. This is nuts.
There is some consolation in the fact that Arsenal and Spurs will get the results they needed, so what Newcastle do will be irrelevant.
That’s it for Bolton
Balotelli will find a way to even the number of players on each side by final time
bolton ffs.
was the stoke pk legit?
Not sure…I’m not sure Crouch was touched
He could help Conde if he’s ever harassed by police at a bar.
QPR worst road record (and a man down), Man City best home record. Incredible.
Way to go, Manchester City. Today, you destroyed not only your own season, but Bolton’s as well. Here’s to another 60-some years as being unknown Jerome in Manchester
qpr winning everything in the box.
Man City has no heart.
That is all.
now it gets interesting.
these last 3 minutes will be epic
DZEKO! Man City seemed dead to rights!
Until Dzeko’s header at the 92nd minute. Here we go.
UHHHH. Ream NEARLY scores!
?ITS THBERHEREHH!@!@!@@@!!
OMFG OMFG OMFG OMFG OMFG OMFG OMFG OMFG OMFG
NO MOFFODFJKSDHFD WALK
FDSJKHFKDJSHFKJDHSFDJHSFKJLDHSFJKLDH
FOMFGOMFOGOMFGOMFOGMFOMGFG
u were saying?
I stand corrected.
It’s a truly amazing game from their remaining 10.
no effingg wayyyyyy!!
I think that’s called a jinx
Bolton gone…Ream within inches of scoring the relegation saving goal…unreal
the game ain’t over ti; the game is over
lesson taught to all once again in EPIC fashion
WOW! What an ending to the EPL season. Wow.
Some systems in this world are complaint-based
Perhaps they have a wee bit of heart, or perhaps spleen
WOW!
NO FREAKING WAY WHAT A BUNCH OF CRAZY FREAKING UNBELIEAVABLE INSANE STUPID CRAZY JFIDOSJHFJIDSHLGFDJSKLFHDJKSLFHDSKJLFHDSJKHFDS
WHAT A FINISH
too bad for bolton
MY GOD, that was the greatest 5 minutes of soccer I have ever witnessed. I don’t even like City and I’m almost teary eyed. Way to go, City. Way to go.
+ ASJFSDLFJ
wow..I love this game!
Aguero saved a few lives today.
IUfoduhsafkdsahfdsaiu
THATs why soccer is the greatest sport in the world. For finishes like that. So brilliant. I love this game.
I can barely breathe.
I don’t even like City lol.
Champs, son.
Haha, same here. I think most SBI readers were rooting for City today so that Ream and Stu could stay up. That was my motivation, anyway. It didn’t work out for the Americans, but it was a hell of a day for soccer. Beautiful game it is.
Oddly enough the MSN.com front page is showing a headline reading “Manchester City wins title” and a picture of Tim Howard
Agreed-the inherent unlikelihood of any given goal being scored makes dramatic finishes infinitely better than a game winning shot, etc. And I love other sports too.
Why the hell is Joey Barton still in the Premier League? Calling him a “thug” is really an insult to thugs all over the world.
Somewhere Metta World Peace is laughing at this dude.
Well, just did an Internet search on Chris Foy, whose referring incompetence today is sending Bolton down to the Championship League. This joker has a history of bad and controversial game-influencing decisions. Some of the coaches publicly criticizing him this season include Harry Redknapp, Roberto Mancini and Andre Villas-Boas. And, curiously, in some of more controversial games, Stoke was the beneficiary—coming out on top as the winner. Bummer for Tim Ream and Stu Holden. Damn.
Indeed.
anyone have a link to the man u fans celebrating then getting the call?
Oh please. Bolton are going down because they have a league second worst goal differential of -31. They are going down because they fail to hold leads late in games. They are going down because they sold their best defender in the middle of a relegation fight. And they are going down because they relied of players with a poor history of staying healthy and had no depth to replace them. I’m not happy that Bolton are gong down, but I know why they are, and it has little to do with Chris Foy.
Barton bumped Tevez in the shoulder with no intend as both players came together and Tevez fell and grabbed his face. The referee assistant very far away decided well someone grabbed their face must be a red card. It is unfortunate that Barton kicked the wrong player for Manchester City. After a year of crap calls going against QPR as a QPR supporter I have no problem with the kick. What difference did it really make in the game? The referees had already made a farce of the game.
Why is Carlos Tevez still in the league? He is scum.
And yet, despite all that, had the referee made the correct decision, it wouldn’t have mattered. How about the fact that Bolton players witnessed one of their own almost die literally in front of their eyes? Not just the obvious psychological damage, but how about the fixture congestion that ensued?
And Stu doesn’t have a history of staying healthy? Look at the two fouls committed on him, and tell me those are fouls that a ‘always-injured player picks up’. He got De-Jonged.
“And yet, despite all that, had the referee made the correct decision, it wouldn’t have mattered.”
That’s not how the game is played. Bolton had 38 weeks to get 40 points, and they didn’t do it. That’s why they’re getting sent down, not due to Chris Foy swallowing his whistle. The EPL isn’t the NBA, the entire regular season still counts for something
Did you even watch the game, CSD???? I am not a Tevez fan. He’s a great player, but stubborn and selfish. However, Barton (a degenerate on his own merit) intentionally elbowed him in the face!!! In my 3 1/2 decades on this planet and involved in football/soccer, that has ALWAYS been a red. Watch replays of it again and rethink your comment.
Indeed! Happy mothers day. mom!
That was an elbow.
I watched multiple replays from multiple angles and there is no elbow to the face. But congratulations you are qualified to be an assistant referee in the EPL. Your great work at making assumptions based on players reactions is just the kind of applicant they are looking for.
Neither of you is wrong. Yes, if Bolton had more points, Foy’s decision would have been immaterial. But they didn’t have more points, which meant Foy’s decision *was* material. And since it was, it’s a shame he botched it.
