Dynamo facing brief midfield crisis with suspensions, Davis calf injury

The Houston Dynamo are coming off consecutive bye weeks, but that does not mean the well-rested club is not facing some serious issues ahead of its match against the Chicago Fire this Sunday.

With Adam Moffat and Colin Clark already suspended for the game, the Dynamo could be down a third midfield starter with 2011 MLS MVP runner-up and assist king Brad Davis nursing a calf injury that he suffered in training over the weekend. According to the club's official website, Davis had an MRI on Monday, the results of which have not yet been disclosed.

"It’s not so good knowing Colin’s not going to play and Adam’s not going to play,” coach Dominic Kinnear said to HoustonDynamo.com. "We talked at the beginning of the season about testing the team's depth, and this will definitely be one of those times if Brad’s not going to be able to make it."

Kinnear was already in a bit of a bind with the absences of Moffat and Clark. Moffat will be serving his one-game suspension for his harsh challenge on Seattle's Osvaldo Alonso, while Clark will be beginning his three-game suspension for shouting an anti-gay slur at a Seattle ball boy in the same game.

If Davis needs to miss time with his injury, left back Corey Ashe would be his likely replacement out wide, with Jermaine Taylor becoming the favorite to assume his place on the back line.

As for replacing Moffat and Clark, offseason acquisition Nathan Sturgis, Jamaican JeVaughn Watson and second-year Homegrown Player Alex Dixon are the prime candidates to step into the lineup. Kinnear could also elect to feature Mac Kandji on the wing, even though he has been used as a forward substitute in two of the Dynamo's three matches.

What do you think of this development? Do you think Houston can get a win in Chicago without three of its midfield starters? Who would you start in place of Davis, Moffat and Clark?

Love to see Dixon get a start but don’t see Dom pulling that trigger.

  2. Air Jordanz says:

    Horrible timing for my Dynamo.

We can’t take Cameron and Ashe off the backline or we’ll get torched by Chicago’s speed. We need to use the following lineup.

    ———-Carr——Ching——

    ————-Camargo———

    ——Dixon———–Ownby—

    —————Sturgis———

    Ashe-Cameron-Boswell-Hainault

  3. Air Jordanz says:

And Creavalle can sub in on D or out wide in MF if necessary.

  4. Roger says:

Watson is ahead of Dixon and ownby

  5. Modibo says:

A lack of discipline by the Dynamo is causing them early season problems. But if the Fire’s midfield – or whole team – is as flaccid as it was against Colorado, Houston fans will have nothing to worry about. Though, if Davis is out, service will be a problem for Ching and Carr.

enter the very expensive DP midfielder to the rescue. Yeah I know, mls sucks.

Left Camargo out of the analysis.
