SBI MLS Best XI: Week Three

The third week of the MLS season saw a handful of teams earn their first victories of the season, and the key figures behind those victories are well-represented in SBI's MLS Best XI.

Thierry Henry was an easy pick after snatching up Player of the Week honors, but teammate Wilman Conde also draws recognition for being outstanding in his Red Bulls debut. Columbus midfielder Milovan Mirosevic didn't really impress in his Crew debut two weeks ago, but came back this past weekend with a virtuoso performance in midfield.

The biggest win of the weekend was delivered by Chivas USA, which upset Real Salt Lake in Utah, and two key figures behind the upset were goalkeeper Dan Kennedy and defender Rauwshan McKenzie, who both made our squad this week.

Here is a look at the complete SBI MLS Best XI for Week 3:

Lee Nguyen made MLS’ team of the week, yet doesn’t make the honorable mention here? Interesting omission

  2. Brandon Isaacson (@BrandonIsaacson) says:

Surprised to see Rafa on this list. He had a good (/very good) game but that mistake was atrocious. Handed Col a goal

  3. JoeW says:

I’d put Joe Cannon on this list. His diving save of Hamdi Salihi’s header was outstanding…maybe the best save we’ll see all year in MLS.

  4. Brandon Isaacson (@BrandonIsaacson) says:

DEF agree with Conde & Henry inclusions :) Can’t comment on others, only saw RBNY v Colorado

  5. PaoloD says:

When was the last time we had a week where Osvaldo Alonso didn’t make the best XI or honorable mention?

  6. JG13 says:

Is there another Chris Tierney playing LB in the league or did the guy who turned the ball over 23 times make the best 11?

  7. Adam says:

Hijack this for the Europa League?

  8. Adam says:

Great idea!! Great response from Schalke to level the game immediatley.

  9. RLW2020 says:

    +1

  10. Air Jordanz says:

As much as the loss @SEA pains me as a Dynamo fan, the Honey Badger had a beast of a game. Seems like par for the course for him.

  11. Adam says:

Hannover just grabbed what could be a key away goal…Cherundolo is in the starting lineup too it appears…

  12. Chop says:

Emiliano Dudar completely shut down Eric Hassli and Sebastien Le Toux – should have at least gotten honorable mention for defense, if not on that first team.

I see Woolard made the honorable mention list, probably his best ever game for United

  13. Rob says:

Nice list and for the most part I agree.

San Jose’s Víctor Bernárdez has been a force at center back. The only goal they have given up in three weeks was a controversial PK vs Houston.

  14. g? says:

    AZ gave up one though.
    Bugger.
As of now (~60′) only one Yank is winning (1-0 Sporting), all other games are 1-1.
Come on AZ, 96, SCP, and S04!

  15. g? says:

    Make that 2-1 Schalke!

  16. Seriously?! says:

    +1000000000

  17. JJ says:

    David Estrada

  18. JesseMT says:

Zach Scott deserves a mention. Key in shutting down Houston’s left side.

  19. Metro-211-7 says:

    Great note!
