CONCACAF Champions League: Match Night Commentary

CCLLogo

Three MLS teams will continue their quests to become the first Major League Soccer club to win the CONCACAF Champions League title as the quarterfinals kick off tonight in Toronto and Seattle.

The defending MLS Cup champion LA Galaxy take on Toronto FC at Rogers Center as almost 50,000 TFC fans gather to cheer on the clear underdogs in the first leg of this all-MLS quarterfinal (8pm, Fox Soccer Channel).

In Seattle, the Sounders take on Mexican club Santos Laguna in the first leg of what is widely regarded as the toughest match-up of the quarterfinals (10pm, Fox Soccer Channel). American forward Herculez Gomez will be in the lineup for a dangerous Santos side coming off a 5-2 victory against Tecos.

The Sounders boast one of the strongest squads in MLS, and will mark the official Seattle debut for goalkeeper Michael Gspurning as well as Eddie Johnson, who is expected to see playing time after recovering from a hamstring injury.

SBI will be providing live commentary on tonight's matches so please feel free to follow along here. As always, you are welcome to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

  1. Chris P says:

    Let’s do this, LA!

  2. abc says:

    streams streams streams

  3. Edwin in LA says:

    firstrowsportsDOTeu should do the trick…

Does anyone know if myp2p whatever after the DOT is up now? They were down at the end of last year….

But why you streaming, it’s on Telefutura nationwide, the great nicknames the Spanish commentators give MLS players alone makes it worth it lol

  4. Dimidri says:

Why aren’t LA wearing their new Blue sash and white kit?

  5. acj says:

There’s also an official stream up at concacaftv: link to concacaftv.premiumtv.co.uk

  6. Citronomics says:

Just got home and tuned in. Plata looks to be an exciting player (only really saw highlights last season of TFDC matches).

And like that, TFC up 2-0 off a sweet header. Welcome to professional footy Luis Silva, and this match is off to a terrific start.

  7. Shawn says:

Beckham almost bent that corner in…amazing save to keep it out

  8. Leeds says:

And welcome to the Galaxy Boyens. Poor marking

  9. Tim Dog says:

and almost tore his ankle up on that lousy Canadian pitch

  10. Francois says:

Wow, this Boyens kid is horrible. Todd Dunivant did horribly on that corner too, the whole defense looks bad without Omar.

  11. Francois says:

    Magee!! Let’s go boys!

  12. HoBo says:

MLS should be embarrassed to allow games on this kind of crap field turf!

  13. Fred says:

    magee is Christ

  14. Mikkel says:

Why is Ty Harden still playing for Tornoto? I though they fixed their backline???

  15. wilyboy says:

Toronto needs to learn to hold onto games like these, or they’ll continue on as they always have- hit and miss.

  16. Mario says:

Dunseth is so bad…I can’t wait for NBC Sports

  17. Fuego says:

Its almost a 5 man backline when Frings sweeps back

  18. CA says:

Come on Toronto, beat the Gals!!

  19. Dudinho says:

What an Amazing Crowd they should play their remaining games at the dome should they advance.

  20. fischy says:

Is Stefan Frei ever gonna be any good?

  21. theraccoun says:

Might as well watch the Concacaf stream, then you don’t have to bother with all the firstrow add nonsence being vomited all over your screen.

Btw, anyone know who the name of the announcer is on the concacaf stream? Guy is awesome

  22. PWW says:

    where is koevermans?

  23. Francois says:

    That pitch is trash.

  24. Steve O says:

Did LA get rid of Donovan? He doesn’t appear to be out there

  25. BJR says:

concacaf stream is good. Gotta register, but still free. No ads

  26. Roger says:

    Hobo -
‘MLS should be embarrassed to allow games on this kind of crap field turf!’

-MLS should be embarrassed that most cities/teams don’t have this type atmosphere!

  27. Freidel says:

He continually refers to Toronto’s 2011 as a disaster. He ignores that they have improved dramatically under Winter and his system. They have beaten some good teams to get this far into the tourney.

    Biased commentary

  28. Eloy G says:

There is no equal in the world with his long passing

  29. GY Clinton says:

he needs to be more energetic with his runs…

  30. A wise man once said says:

    IKR? I’m disappointed.

  31. gacm32 says:

Terrible call by the linesman on Keane there, clearly onsides and would have been clean through on goal.

  32. gacm32 says:

    Wow…Josh Saunders looks horrible today.

  33. HoBo says:

Galaxy bit unlucky, should be up a couple goals right now

  34. JGD says:

    Electric atmosphere, terrible pitch.

  35. Hobo says:

    toronto players are biotches!

  36. Francois says:

WORDDD!! Their time wasting tactics are sickening.

  37. Dank says:

    Boyens looks pretty good.

  38. Francois says:

L.A. has not looked good today, disjointed in the midfield, nobody is willing to take players on in good positions on the wing. Landon has been invisible too.

  39. Francois says:

Boyens has looked horible this whole game, that’s why he’s coming off on top of needing a goal.

  40. karbaz says:

Toronto has done **** all this entire half, if LA were actually playing decent they would have put this game away already. I expect them to win big in the second leg, 2-2 haha take that Toronto.

Toronto is still terrible. I wish both teams could lose somehow.

  41. Francois says:

I take it all back Landon, I apologize.

  42. Dimidri says:

TFC fans-throw your streamers, Galaxy will just score a goal. Love Beckham sticking it to the fans.

  43. Francois says:

I really dislike TFC, they have the dirtest players in the league.

  44. abc says:

Yeah Donovan did nothing… except be involved in both Galaxy goals.

  45. abc says:

Roger, you Center sucks for soccer.

  46. Soccer Docker says:

They cant wear the scudetto jerseys until they start the season. The white/blue was nice.

  47. abc says:

    whatdog

  48. Mua'Dweeb says:

Could Seattle’s jerseys look more ridiculous? I think the lattes are getting to their brains in the pac-nw.

  49. Stadia says:

No, LA is just stacked. Buddle and Keane were pests all night, and this was after limited training.

Well-fought game by both sides. I can’t take anything away from Toronto.

  50. Dimidri says:

Disagree-think they’re surprisingly awesome, best kits since first year to me.

  51. Henry says:

    Roberto Carlos my friend

  52. Herc says:

better than the yellow ones…uniquely Seattle tho

  53. Rich says:

    What intensity by both sides.

    Welcome to the KO rounds

  54. Citronomics says:

Sounders on the board. Sublimely weighted ball by Freddy M to assist the header. DCU fan rootin for Seattle to rep MLS.

  55. Tim says:

Long distance shooting, yes…Corners and Long Balls, no

  56. Rod says:

    Santos has maintained composure though

  57. Rod says:

    Where was Ecuadorian Intenrnational Caicedo?

He was supposed to shore up the middle for TFC. They could have used him in this one.

  58. Rabid RBNY says:

    Sounds familiar.

  59. Edwin in LA says:

Well they are going to debut that on Saturday for the Season and Home Opener vs RSL, and more important is that they are away, so why not use the really nice Dark Royal Blue away Uniforms that would contrast just as well with Toronto’s Red Jerseys?

  60. Jon says:

The blue ones are nice, but the black villian kits are the best.

  61. Marc says:

Seattle needs to get another one before they head into Mexico

  62. Fernando says:

Santos will be trying to pull one back in the 2nd Half, no doubt

  63. BeantownFootball says:

Watching on a feed of Al-Jazeera +4 English, and the British announcer got every single thing about Eddie Johnson wrong. Not a Manchester United youth product. Did not play for Coventry. Was not with Portland last year. Apparently Johnson is a weird mix of Kenny Cooper and I don’t know what.

  64. BeantownFootball says:

    *Al-Jazeera +9

  65. Dimidri says:

Same announcer as CONCACAF.tv guy. Thought that was funny.

  66. CA says:

Of the four teams that played tonight, the Sounders looked the best. Great possession football.

  67. marco says:

Sounders 2-1. Santos was fortunate Ossie Alonso had such a poor game. If he can pick it up to his usual standards Seattle may go through.

Announcer thought Sounders had the Eddie Johnson from Portland. Don’t they have a producer/director listening in?

  68. g-dub says:

Sounders played very well – as if in midseason form. The additions looked very solid: Gspurning, Johanssen. (No Sivabaek though).

Terrific finish by Herc Gomez on the Santos goal. Classic goal scorers goal.

  69. Pi says:

    Look like both happened…good game

  70. Primo says:

Look like Monterrey, LA, and Settle are looking good going into their 2nd Legs.
Hopefully tomorrow’s game will be as intense as the 1st 3
