Real Salt Lake are looking to the future just as much as they are hoping to win an MLS Cup title in 2012.

Real Salt Lake announced four moves on Thursday, including the re-signings of Fabian Espindola and Ned Grabavoy. According to the team's press release, Espindola signed a new four-year deal while Grabavoy agreed to a three-year contract that will keep him with the club until 2014.

The club also announced it exercised its purchase option on midfielder Yordany Alvarez from USL Pro League club Orlando City S.C. RSL also purchased forward Paulo Jr., who joined Real Salt Lake in September 2010 on loan from Miami FC. The two players signed three-year deals with Real Salt Lake.

Here are more notes from around the league:

BILELLO ADDRESSES MORENO CONCERNS

Just what exactly is going on with Jose Moreno and the New England Revolution is unclear, but club president Brian Bilello took to the web on Thursday to shed some light on the situation. Bilello informed fans that the team has been unable to reach Moreno during the past day-and-a-half to verify if he made comments about staying with Colombian club Once Caldas despite having already agreed to a loan deal with the Revolution. Bilello also wrote that an update would come when the club is able to provide one.

MORSINK UNDERGOES SUCCESSFUL SURGERY

D.C. United midfielder Kurt Morskink underwent successful surgery on Wednesday, the club announced via a press release. The surgery was to repair Morton's Neuroma, an injury to the nerve between the toes which causes pain and thickening. The 27-year-old Morsink, who signed a new deal with United in December, is anticipated to miss 4-6 weeks.

  1. Scuba Steve says:

I think RSL’s deals in general are good but not great. Grabs is a workhorse who we need to keep (we need to keep SOMEONE with experience and he’s done well for us), Espy is really starting to shine if he can keep his head on straight and I like the 4yr deal. Paulo can be an absolute game-changer if he stays healthy and regains his form. and Yordany was also a quality pick up. They deserve 3 years to see if they can really blossom.

  2. 20 says:

Blake Brettschneider has also joined the Revolution on trial.. Moreno situation is RIDICULOUS. I wonder if the Revolution can sue Once Caldas if the player refuses to come to New England?

  3. Fan says:

I think this shows players across the league that if you do well at RSL, RSL will always want to keep you in the fold. Strength by consistency – keeping the core of the team together.

“RSL also purchased forward Paulo Jr”

    Biggest news for me.

  5. DCLee says:

Happy for Blake! Hope he lacks onto the team.

  6. Anthony says:

Why is Morsink still in this league

  7. Wispy says:

Geez, Anthony, way to kick a Morton while he’s Neuroma’d.

  8. Fox, the Reactionary Network says:

I heard the Fire may not use its DP selection. Its so nice their objective is to be a mid-table team.

  9. Snare says:

    Ditto

  10. Eric says:

Think you’re being harsh. Just because you can use a DP slot doesn’t mean you should. This isn’t a team that has avoided using the DP rule in the past by any means. I’m guessing Klopas is right now unable to find a player that fits his team vision and is available to join the team.

I suggest we wait and see. Chicago isn’t in terrible shape for this year. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a DP come in during the summer though.

  11. Mo Johnston, soccer supergenius says:

I applaud the Revs’ efforts to get their roster settled well before opening day.

  12. A wise man once says:

…As long as it’s not NE.

  13. Harry says:

These are just re-signings. They haven’t done anything to significantly upgrade the team while other teams have made major moves. They have the money to bring in a DP that would put them back into contention.

  14. Rod says:

A good team that was on the brink of a CCL title should be doing more to improve the team.

  15. Rod says:

Both RSL and Chicago are cheapskates…Contenders for sure, but a big name away from greatness.

  16. Scuba Steve says:

Signing some foreign guy you’ve never heard of doesn’t mean it’s an upgrade. Theirs been plenty of busts in MLS offseason foreign signings. These players are all proven performers in some way for RSL. So in that sense it is better than the unknown. They don’t have as much cap room as you think. Not exciting NEW signings, but when the status of Alvarez and Araujo Jr was in doubt they are welcome signings.
